It’s a free online course about drug and alcohol awareness through dds if your schools health class or drivers ed course did not already provide the course and a certificate of completion. ADAP • Do NOT drink and drive! • GA Law requires anyone under age 18 to take this short Online course (about Alcohol and Drug Awareness) before you can get your driver’s license. (not your learner’s permit, but your regular driver’s license.) • You must pass to get your certificate, which you will be required to turn in before the Dept of Driver Services will allow you to take your driver’s test. • This course is free! • This course is Online! • The course is approximately 4 hours long. ADAP INSTRUCTIONS 1. Go to www.dds.ga.gov2. Go to the second tab called “Driver’s info”, then look under the tab called “Training” and click “eADAP”. 3. Click “Student Registration” (on the far left) and then click “continue”. 4. Fill out the form to enroll (check the box that says “My school does not offer ADAP” 5. AFTER you fill out the form, click “SAVE” at the bottom. In most cases, it takes 10 minutes, and you will get an email with your username and password in it. (check your “spam folder” if you don’t see the email.) 6. Follow the instructions in that email on how to take the class. 7. The class must be completed within 30 days after filling out the above form. ADAP – ADDITIONAL INFO • If you have questions, you can click the “FAQ” tab on the website and then click “eADAP” Or you can email your question to: eadapsupport@dds.ga.gov • If you do not pass the course, you are allowed to take the course again, but you will have to re-register and start the whole process from the beginning. • If you pass the final exam, you have to print out your certificate. • IMPORTANT REMINDER: You MUST follow every direction they give you in the email you get after you enroll OR you might not pass!!! (It’s the email with your student login info. It has very important details about how to take the course. You must read every part of the email very carefully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone recommend a good online 30 hour course. My older kids did the course in person, but looking for a solid online version instead. The ga drivers page has a huge list that is a little difficult to navigate.

I know this is off topic…but I was wondering what you folks with soon to be drivers are doing for the new requirements? My kid took driver's ED in school last year during his first semester. He had taken Health the previous year and did the ADAP stuff. I was able to obtain certificates for all that stuff plus enrollment letter from his HS and then we just brought it all with us when he took his driver's test. Get ready for your insurance to skyrocket by the way!

I’m sending my son to a driving school…a bit pricey but we don’t have drivers Ed through school here. They take care of the class and the required hours of driving (except nighttime).

But I am looking at this one ! www.myimprov.com/drivers-education/georgia/I thought myimprov was just Defensive Driving courses not actual Driver's ED. The requirement is for classroom time and driving time for Driver's education. Our whole family did the Defensive driving course on myimprov to reduce our rates (all in household have to take defensive driving in GA for the discount to apply). It was ok but I am going to be honest while my kid took the time to go through it, I was able to pass all the testing with 100% without reading most of the course.

Teach the kid yourself. It’s some of the best 1:1 time you can get with your kid once they’re of driving age.

Summer is great driving teaching -- not as much traffic.
thanks for sharing online course above, should be easier then attending the course in person for sure!

We also taught our child to drive, but for those who haven’t been through this yet, I believe most (if not all?) insurance companies give a discount when your child has a minimum of six hours behind the wheel with a professional instructor. (That combined with the 30 hr class (Joshua’s law) that you have to do anyway for your license). You’ll also want to contact your insurance company to see if they accept those 30 hrs via an online course vs being in the classroom. Some used to require that you had to be in a classroom for the discount but relaxed that requirement when Covid hit. In any case, recommend to double check. Here’s who we used: www.trilliumdrivingschool.comBut all of that said, the discount above, plus the good grade discount, our insurance still DOUBLED. Painful.

The ga drivers page has a huge list that is a little difficult to navigate. We have done Georgia Drive Smart, which is all online. Their is a state grant that will cover the cost if you apply in advance before the classes start. GDS also allows your teen to take the state exam and driving part of the exam with their instructor ahead of their birthday. Then when they turn 16 or it has been a year since their learners, GDS uploads their tests and you just show up to get permanent license. It’s been great, but expensive

Not to give away my secrets, but the drivers license office in cumming is heaven compared to most. never crowded and the people couldn't be nicer. i used to go to pleasant hill, and it was miserable.

My kid did driver’s Ed at Drive Smart. I think she did the Joshua’s law portion there as well, since she hadn’t taken health yet, but I could be wrong about that. Drive Smart was great, and it gave her the ability to take the driving test through them in their cars. It was also a familiar course plus some familiar road driving for her test. She has had her license for almost 2 years, and no accidents that were her fault (she was rear ended in the school parking lot).
