We are told to always bring both jerseys just in case for both home and away matches, but it is custom for home teams to change if both teams have similar colors. We had away matches this morning and for some reason all our teams had to change jerseys. Many players on all our teams did not bring their other jersey and had to put on pennies, along with some wearing different colored socks (it just did not look good on the field) This is my second year being involved in Academy soccer and the first time me seeing the away teams needing to change.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I agree. Home team changes. Different colored socks is a problem. It's hard for the ref to see who kicked. It out. I don't know how that happened or who you played, but that was wrong.
Next time be sure players bring bring all uniforms and socks. They shouldn't have had to change, but it would have been better for your team if they could have.

Home team should change but kids (and parents) should learn at some point always bring both jerseys.
Always bring both jerseys.
Always bring both jerseys.
How many times do your coaches have to tell you.
Always bring both jerseys.

Isn't there a rule that ALL clubs have uniforms that are dark color for home and white/light for away games? I'm too lazy to look it up right now.. But I think it is the case. Oh, and always bring both uniforms. Sometimes I think the old school YMCA "reversible" shirts just makes more sense. Edit: no rule. Law #4 of GA soccer youth rules and regs says Home team must change. www.georgiasoccer.org/about/bylaws__rules/

Youth games in the US, home team must change. internationally and with the Pro game, away team has to change. For Classic and Athena games, it is the responsibility of the home team to contact the away team during the week before the game to establish those kinds of things. I am surprised that on an Academy game the clubs had not worked out colors in advance.
Only in high school does the home team have to wear white.

I saw one game where a player was not allowed to play because of having socks that were a different color than the rest of the team. The crazy thing was he played the whole first half that way. It seems like that should have been addressed when the ref checked in the teams.
Some clubs seem to have moved away from having a white jersey. They still have two colors but it's red and yellow or red and black or something like that. Our games have had more of a need for someone to change colors in the last year or so than I remember in the past. Like youthsoccerdad said... always bring both jerseys (and I'd add shorts and socks too).

I get your frustration..BUT your team should ALWAYS bring both their uniforms no matter what. We have never changed as home but have a few times as away, but its never been an issue since we always make sure we bring both jerseys

We had a game last week where we were the away team. We were in all white. The home team had white socks and shorts, and their jerseys were white and blue striped. The ref asked them to change jerseys. Their other jerseys were orange, so that was a good contrast. However, not all of their players had their orange jerseys, so I guess the ref said to change back. It was a little confusing watching some of the game.
Should the other team have been made to stay in orange and the other players sit out because they didn't have their other jerseys?

rifle thank you for the link and information, it appears the home team is responsible to change. I also agree in club soccer that home are dark jersey and away are light/white jersey. Some clubs this year have new kits and both home and away are dark. This will cause many jersey changes and move onto dreaddy point. On the importance of clubs to have an understanding on what colors to have for jerseys. In summary...of course all players always bring both jerseys, all clubs must be on the same page with who changes, all clubs must be on the same page on what type/color to use for home and away - if there maybe a uniform conflict - communicate with other club.

Still seeing people insist that there is some kind of rule concerning home or away colors. For youth games, there is no such rule. You can wear whatever you want - dark, light or white. There are only two rules - the home team changes and the home coach is supposed to contact the away coach before the game to make sure of colors and directions.
I have had where we showed up in navy blue, the home team was wearing black. We couldn't tell the two apart easily but the referee didn't force them to change. At half time, my team changed to white just so we could find each other. It worked. We went from 0-1 down to come back and win 2-1.
Since then, I now email the other coach even if I'm the away team to let them know what color my team will be wearing. Haven't had a problem since!

Dreaddy is spot on. There is no rule about what kind of color you have to wear. And the home coach has to contact the away coach, but I've learned my RIAS teams that this rarely happens. So Ill always shoot an email by Tuesday night just to touch base. It's the away teams only advantage to be able to wear what ever color they want, something we've used in hotter weather a lot.
Just another reason as a coach or team manager to always have a copy of rules on your phone or printed out for when refs get influenced by the home coach to much.
To his other point about navy and black it also goes for stripes. My niece at Bluesprings wears a red/white stripes and they played gsa team in red, well BYSA was home and since three of their players didn't bring their navy jerseys, they decided to wear the red/white ones with the refs ok. Well it was nightmare, they couldn't find their teammates in the mass of red and ended up losing it. Something for all the new clubs with stripes to remember.
If you are smart and good enough to play select soccer, you are smart enough to listen to your coach and bring both/all your uniforms. For parents that don't listen, It's not fun to bench a kid for not having their uniform because mom/dad didn't wash it or remind them to bring it either.
