A tie today. Hope this game put things into perspective for many. They are decent but not the world beaters they looked like against an auto qualifier.

Correct. Eliminated in quarterfinals. I didn’t get to watch it but, FWIW, the Atlanta chapter of the Outlaws posted on Twitter that we clearly outplayed Nigeria. US outplayed(as they should have) them for 100 mins. Full time plus 10 mins stoppage combined. US could not capitalize on their 15 to 3 corner kick differential. I’m not sure but maybe 2 of the corners could have lead to a goal the other 13 were either long or not in position. Then in shootout we had 1 miss the frame completely and the other was missed by the captain. Little surprised by placement and velocity but the Nigerian keeper was able to save the shot. Some may even say there was controversy as the goal for Nigeria was off of a PK. It was definitely a foul but borderline if it was in the box. In the shootout both keepers were warned to stay on their line but the US keeper was clearly off her line on a save which lead to the Nigerians getting to rekick.

Goal America gave up was on a PK. Some may say location of foul was questionable.

I didn’t get to watch it but, FWIW, the Atlanta chapter of the Outlaws posted on Twitter that we clearly outplayed Nigeria. What are the outlaws? 1. Very weak PK call using VAR for Nigeria. Whether the PK foul was even in the area was also disputable 2. US GK stopped a shot in Kicks From the Mark, but then they said she moved. Freeze frame of kick shows it was a bad call.

I hate pks called for fouls on the edge of the box when attacker is not a threat to score. it's way to harsh a penalty. we need a box within the box. that was a soft call, and no way I'd award a pk, if anything a free kick out side the box.

That’s also not what VAR is supposed to be used / looking for.

That’s also not what VAR is supposed to be used / looking for. Watching it live it definitely looked like a foul but the VAR did not kick in until maybe 20 seconds later. It was a bit odd.

Foot on the line + foul=PK. Ballsy call to make but an accurate one, nonetheless, so I have no issue it because of that. Nigeria didn’t back down to the U.S. and played them tough throughout. The U.S. had many more opportunities to score and simply failed to do so. Also, why Gamero—arguably your best player and definitely your best attacking/scoring opportunity-creating player throughout the tournament—is not taking a PK and defenders are is beyond me. I mean, seriously, are you trying to win or not?!? Just say congrats to Nigeria, as they were the better team yesterday. Underestimate your opponent and you will pay the price. Gotta bring it every match, not just against the teams you can beat by double digits. Mirrors what happened with the U20s months ago and the senior team against England and the Spanish B (or was it C?) team earlier this month. The winds are changing, boys and girls. The U.S. better change with them before we get left behind.

Officiating was inconsistent and indecisive. Center looked lost and intimidated most of the game. When the powers that be insist on all female crews for the women's game, this is what you get. It's offensive the players - who are the best in the world - have to rely on 2nd tier officials for these once in a lifetime matches. Stop the sexist discrimination against male officials and help save the women's game. It's hard to watch under the current system.
