would have liked to see more depth in this article. because you can't ignore athleticism as well. yea, the athlete might win ya some games because of his/her athleticism, so what you are going to stop them from running onto a ball in space? its one thing if the keeper is just banging balls over top, but another if an athlete creates space and runs onto a ball and either beats the keeper 1v1, nails a ball top shelf, or plays a beautiful ball to the middle for an assist. soccer athletes are perceived different than other athletes for sure. the difference in my opinion with soccer is the "freak" athletes typically don't play. i'm talking the guys with all the tools (doesn't mean they would be good soccer players) but they have a unique combination of size, speed and agility.
in every sport athleticism still will only get you so far. the modern athlete is so much different than those that grew up in the 80s. these kids today are specialized monsters! they train, they do speed and agility, extra 1 v 1s etc. The old days of a kid just showing up and and picking up a basketball ball and schooling kids are over, the top tier hoop players bust their tales now.
