Where girls compete but men rule As women’s soccer undergoes a historic shift toward gender equity, elite girls’ soccer is still largely controlled by men. The results, women say, are toxic for coaches and players alike. Interesting that there were no replies to this. You can't tell me that people don't recognize this!
Challenge to local soccer parents...please post the name of your kid's ECNL or GA coach that is female.
Second, name a female DOC at any big 6 club or GA club that isn't big 6.
Third, name women that are in HIGH positions of leadership at ECNL/GA clubs. I will start off with Mo Gonda. BTW I don't consider director of Goalkeeping or Director of XYZ at branch locations to be HIGH positions. I am talking top 3-5 most influential in a club.
@slickdaddy the purpose of this is not "wokeness". It is due to the "culture of abuse" in youth soccer. The lack of female head coaches and directors is part of the reason the predators find their way through youth sports. There are no people that the kids (or parents) feel comfortable reporting to.

I recognize this but not sure what the answer is to the problem. Should women start their own high level soccer league? That would be my suggestion-build it the way they want from the top down. Deion Sanders had an interesting statement about there no being many Black coaches in the NFL-he said you need Black ownership to really make a difference. Start from the top down. He wasn’t critical of the White owners-he just said they hire who they know. Made sense to me.

You hire who you know but there is too much good old boys (and girls in certain industries) that literally actively block advancement of women. Women are doing what they can when they have the money to do so (and the time). As you know, being in the soccersphere for so long, starting your own club is very hard at pro or youth level. It takes a long time to build relevance. As for the league, this is what the GA was trying to do. Not 100% men of course (and I am not convinced that it should be) but there are a lot of women in leadership positions. Also when you email the women in charge, they reply quickly. Lesle Gallimore replied to me with excellent solutions and also appreciated suggestions.

That would take someone willing to spend $300k or better to take it to federal/Supreme Court I would think.

Call me crazy but I’m more concerned with a teacher abusing kids than a soccer coach. I mean when is a soccer coach ever alone with a kid? So because women don’t run everything there are predators? Uh, I don’t know if you pay attention to other sports but there is a lot of funny stuff going on with women coaches in basketball. So please stop trying to blame the man all the time. There are enough wealthy women in the world where they can kick in a few billion collectively and there you go. Hopefully “women” can include women besides the white ones. Because when I do see women in charge, I don’t see any other hues except white. With a country as diverse as ours surely we can broaden the color spectrum on the women’s national team. Yeah, I know the men’s team isn’t as good as the women’s but in my opinion it’s a far closer representation of our country with its diversity.
Women love to communicate about any and everything. Men don’t. Unless it’s a real emergency, most men aren’t going to immediately respond to some innocuous question. I know some coaches. It’s really surprising how many emails, text messages and phone calls these coaches receive about the dumbest things. Then if they don’t immediately respond (which they don’t get paid for even though it’s related to their soccer job) people have an attitude. I wish all the sexist messages about men would stop because when people were talking race issues on here, people would comment to stop. I get it we have free speech but it’s kinda lame.

That would take someone willing to spend $300k or better to take it to federal/Supreme Court I would think. Well I would hope the goal is to make people aware of it including the few women that are in power and get them to bring in others. This would require the support of a few good men in power. As an example when I was a med student applying to ortho surgery residency I came across some astounding sexism, but also some men who made it their goal to improve the number of women in the field. I was a strongly desired applicant to those men. The program that I eventually landed in had only graduates 2 female residents in the past 40 years. Part of it was the low numbers of female applicants but part was they couldn't keep the ones they had. The program director was determined to increase their numbers. He felt like I could help him do it. There are 30 residents (6 each for 5 years). When I started I was the only woman out of the 30. They had one female faculty member. By the time I left there were 4 female residents and 3 female faculty members. This was one good man with a goal. Having me there, knowing his goal because he told me why he was so keen to have me of all of the women they had interviewed (there was one other that he hoped to get, but she matched elsewhere close to home) and enlisting my help to convince the residents that a woman could thrive in the program. He wanted my help to engage the female faculty member (a very strong personality who wasn't fond of the other female resident who went through the program during her time there) and get her on board. So the program went from 1/30 to 4/30 in 5 years. It is hard to change the make up of the program because they can only take on new residents once per year and by definition lose them after 5 years. You need buy in from a few men at the top and a few women who work with them or have their own clubs (only 1 ECNL club has that). I do find it interesting that they did not bother to assess GA clubs or USYS NL clubs with a history of putting multiple teams in like some in the mid-west and northeast. Several of those NL clubs have already been pulled into the GA. But most GA clubs are also male owned. They just make it part of their goal to amplify the female coaches and to listen to the girls with their "Girls Academy Advisory Panel."

When is a soccer coach alone with a kid??? Do u have girls? I don't remember. The answer to this is that it could be any time they want to be alone. The kids and parents are sometimes DESPERATE for that leg up. They will leave them alone with a coach for a training and run errands while that is happening. Grooming happens. Parents can be late for pick up at practice. Travel teams have coaches alone at times. ABSOLUTELY women can be verbally abusive (and sexually), but you even mentioned that there are some personality differences between the genders so 🤷♀️. We do know that the numbers favor male abusers. 💯 we should have women of color represented to the level of their % in the population, hopefully more. I personally would start a women lead club if I had the extra cash. My passion for the sport and for women leadership is high, but I would do it to protect and help the kids and move women forward as I have before. There are women with money who could do that but I think those with the passion are currently doing that for the NWSL with hopes to trickle down. If you read the article I hope you noticed they highlighted a female coach of color and she certainly had qualifications as a coach. I don't know her personality though. I do hope that she is trailblazing for women like her. It is hard to be the "one" with pressure on you to succeed for yourself and for the others that may come after you. I know. I have done it (see prior post).

Agree oraclesfriend, but change will come slowly unless women take ownership roles, IMHO (or the federal government steps in).
