Hi! Newbie on the forum. We’re new to the academy landscape in Georgia and looking to explore other options for a U7 upcoming U8 & U10 upcoming U11 players. We’re currently at a small club and have been invited to bigger clubs with better teams this past year but have never explored other options. This year we’re making a change and wanted to get some feedback on the best options out there. Any help is appreciated!

Welcome to the discussion footy1. You should share things like your area of town, the gender of your kids, flexibility/tolerance for commuting across town, etc..

And don't forget the most important criteria - household income. I found them all to be expensive. Ironically the smallest club we’ve been with was more expensive for an equal league. Part of that cost may be because they took goalkeeper training seriously and had keepers attend training at least twice per week, with a third session optional. Two of the big clubs we have been (are) at only provided one session of GK training per week, and the coach running the session was not at the level they needed to be. I end up using a private GK coach to fill that gap. And that’s even at the ECNL level.

We’re in the Alpharetta area and pretty open to commute for a quality program. Both of my girls play up at their current club and really enjoy the sport. Do all clubs have tryouts the same week? What’s the best way to be seen besides weekend games prior to tryouts?

UFA Forsyth. Should be about a 20 min drive. Maybe more in rush hour.

What’s the best way to be seen besides weekend games prior to tryouts? Clubs don't like competition, so I wouldn't be surprised if multiple clubs have tryouts on the same days and at the same times. That's how things are at the select level. Not sure if they force a choice at the academy level too..

All SCCL clubs, even if they have higher level of play that are not bound by the agreement, have tryouts for the same ages on the same days.

UFA Forsyth. Should be about a 20 min drive. Maybe more in rush hour. Make sure you join the Iggy fan club. Do as he says stay in line and maybe your kid won’t get passed over. Also be vocal about your issues and make sure to threaten to leave and you will get your way.

Just had a friend put those learned skills to use to get their daughter onto a varsity HS squad after the coach did not take her at tryouts. Make sure that you are preparing the road for your children.

My daughter is on a mid level team and likes her coach & team mates. But thanks for the advice!

At these ages the parents that are the best promoters are sometimes valued more than their kids skills.
