Pretty good weekend in Florida, hard to complain.
* I'm not a disney person at all, but I so much favor Florida over even San Diego for us Atlantians -- too bad it's too hot in florida in the summer to host nationals, wouldn't be bad. Its just very nice to be able to drive to these events.
* College coaches aren't really attending the u16 games, I think these showcases can be scaled back at this age.
* For the u19 age group, ECNL should think about a Fall/Winter Championship and then a Summer Championship. It's very hard for u19 teams to stay together through the spring and then attend nationals in June -- Host a Jan championship in Florida for the teams with fall seasons. Then be done with it. More teams could qualify as well.
* ECNL should have a digital book with every teams college profile, should be no need to hand out flyers at games, I understand the need for paper copies etc - but the league should have a digital booklet ready. With geotags, and game schedules, a coach could literally be sitting on the sideline, and the app would know what game they are watching. Keep in mind, Lavers "marketing" group brings in over 3 million i believe, not sure what they are spending the money on, but a college ecnl app would go a long way
* Fields in Sanford are just a little narrow, could widen a tad, only complaint on the fields -- but as is, fields grass were nice and perfectly flat. every corner kick was a goal scoring opportunity for sure.
* Schedule had some very good matchups and I think ecnl did a good job matching teams level of play up
* liked 45 minute games vs shortened games as well -- 3 games in 3 days is brutal for sure

So do a national championship for U19 boys for what 5 states? Is FL even done with HS or would it have to be Feb for those teams?
I’d rather see ECNL force teams to play in the spring nationwide. Zero reason why HS soccer shouldn’t be in the Fall/Winter across the country.

Coaches enjoy the flyers with photos so they can make notes.
A bigger issue is having nationals after tryout season. You could have a team of 18 make nationals but for whatever reason 1/2 are on the team the following year. Can make for some awkward situations.
Another issue is matchups in showcases. For example a team could have a poor 2020 but in 2021 be drastically improved or vice versa. Now they are playing teams based off prior year. This is an issue at older ages as the match ups dictate who watches the matches on some level.
As for showcases U16 and lower it’s all about getting familiar with the process. Wins and losses do not matter as much at showcases. Individual performance is key.

Exactly-Kirby Smart helicoptered in to my school last week…never seen a college soccer coach do that. Maybe it happens…🤷🏻♂️

Ie July and august. Start seasons Sept 1, not Aug 1. Is it better to play in August heat in Atlanta or December when it’s typically 50°.

“College coaches aren't really attending the u16 games, I think these showcases can be scaled back at this age.“
Sophomores can be “really” recruited starting this summer (before that with D3 and NAIA). So scout’s definitely watch to see who may be someone to keep and eye on / get in touch with… and there were a few at the u16 games. With that said - either place the u16s at the same venue as the older ages or don’t have them at the showcase. Coaches won’t go out of the way to watch u16s when the priority is the older groups- especially if you put them an hour away! More coaches watched u16s in Carolina than FL just by being at the same venue.

Florida showcase was good though. Good exposures for the boys. Man not to go down the title 9 chatter, but I know Soccerhouse has discussed this -- imagine if the SEC and the entire ACC conference had mens's soccer -- I honestly think it would make a huge difference for US Soccer and the resources these schools could put to soccer. Granted, is it as a "hole" a money revenue generating sport -- no, but it could be -- if I'm mistaken, the SEC women lead the country in attendence. The rivalvries games would be insane Bama vs Auburn Bama vs LSU Florida vs Tenn Florida vs Bama Florida vs Georgia Tenn vs Georgia Tenn bs Bama etc... A human can dream....
