it's interesting -- I don't think the is league can be financially successful for non-MLS teams, as that is not the intent of the league. a new team is being added in High Point, NC for 2024. Not sure how they can make money to support a team etc. I think the main investor is super rich, so his interest might be to just bring 'pro' soccer to that community. www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Daily/Closing-Bell/2022/11/10/MLS-Next-Pro-adding-independent-High-Point-team.aspxMLS Next Pro announced that a new independent club based in High Point, N.C. will join the developmental league in 2024. Carolina Core FC will be the second independent club in Next Pro, joining Rochester New York FC. The other 20 teams that competed in the league’s inaugural 2022 season are affiliated with MLS clubs. MLS Next Pro President Charles Altchek has said the league plans to add 10-20 independent teams over time. Megan Oglesby, Matt Penley and Mark Penley are the team’s principal investors, and National Soccer HOFer Eddie Pope will serve as the club’s Chief Sporting Officer. The club will play its home matches at Truist Point, home of the Atlantic League’s High Point Rockers, which is undergoing renovations and will be able to accommodate 5,000 fans for soccer.
