That should be a great day. Despite being so poor Chelsea have a great squad and Newcastle will probably spend heavily in the summer.

These things are just money grabs with their 2nd or 3rd string academy players playing in it. If Miggy comes back it will be to play some unmeaningful minutes at say the 70 minute mark or something. That being said their 2nd and 3rd string players are probably infinitely better soccer than most MLS teams.

Possibly but July 26 is 3 weeks before EPL starts so teams are getting to the end of their pre season

Good chance to see clubs with their top players in Atlanta.

I wonder if they will bring in natural grass. Yes, the Benz will have natural grass for the matches.

Slippery slope…. If you can do it for the Englishmen, why can’t we have natural grass all the time?

Slippery slope…. If you can do it for the Englishmen, why can’t we have natural grass all the time? $$$ The root cause is standards. The Premier league has a standard that all teams MUST play on grass. They have inventes some cool technology to infuse synthetic fibers and such but it is a league standard. If MLS would adopt the league standard and enforce it all teams would play on grass... MLS would never do it but they should...

Between United and Falcons you have United starting their season in late February and then some overlap in the Fall and Falcons season going usually until December but every once in awhile January. That’s 10-11 months straight and the grass needs to go dormant for longer than that. Throw in all the concerts, truck and motorcycle shows and whatever else you’re constantly changing your field over. So yeah, money, but a lot of other things too.

Yes, they should really have their own stadium. Originally, grass was called for in Mercedes Benz but they would have had to bring in artificial light and that was cost prohibitive. It’s many things but it all comes back to $. Given that it’s multi-use, turf is probably the best alternative. But, soccer stadiums are used for more than soccer (rugby, concerts, etc) in Europe and the grass grows back fine-as another poster noted, it’s a mixture of real and artificial.

They should have their own stadium but it will never happen as long as they share ownership. Not enough revenue to split between two venues.
