“ Coaching Education Crisis!
So now within the US Soccer Coaching Education Programs instructors Don’t perform practical demonstrations🤷♂️🤷♂️
Surely this cannot be true?
How on earth are you supposed to show someone how to coach without demonstrating🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
What is being taught?
Why do people travel and meet up for practical sessions if no one is showing them how to do it properly 🤷♂️
What is the reasoning behind this approach?
Where do candidates get the visual pictures to work from?
The current state of coaching is a direct result of this approach!
People who talk a good game, put nice graphics on a laptop or tablet but totally fail to engage players, practically.
Seriously thoughts?” -Derek Broadley-Technical Director at Charleston Soccer Club

I had no idea they weren’t going through this stuff. I took my F (I think) license forever ago to coach rec and we had practical sessions and it was a 2 day course with practical sessions on how to run drills complete with us having to run some ourselves. They don’t do this anymore?

Is this why the current trend for training is a series of rondos with 3–5–7–9–+ players, followed by small-sided games? I hope this is not true because that would be a devastating blow to the training of current and future coaches, leading to ill-prepared players...

Best course I took was the National Youth License. 5 days - day 1 classroom, 4 days of field work. Each field day was - early AM classroom, late AM fieldwork with each student leading a 10-15 minute session with other students as players. Each afternoon, the class brought in kids of the age of emphasis that day (U6 / U8 / U10 / U12), with each student leading the session they practiced in the AM. Sessions were videoed and reviewed post session. That was character building and really really helpful.
My G / F / E / D courses - the students (coaches) did all the playing. Ok, but some coaches don't need to be playing for hours a day.
All that said, the value from running a live session with players was higher than a bunch of us coaches playing. If they keep that element - bringing in players to actually coach - we'll be in good shape. Have no idea if that's the plan...
