Am I the only one disturbed at the new San Diego Team.....
They have the USL loyals with a very good following, but why built on that, lets give a billionaire a new team....
i hate it. absolutely hate it.

Garber and the MLS were not loyal to the USL SD Loyal(my apologies)...
I get that you would prefer a gagilionaire as an owner to weather the ups & downs of owning an MLS club. However, are you telling me they could not work something out to build on what the SD Loyal group has accomplished? Plus, with Landon Donovan as a part owner, that will help the profile of the team and give it some cred. But then again, maybe MLS balked at this because DeAndre Yedlin is also an owner of the Loyal and he currently plays in the MLS with Miami, so there might be a rule against that. Regardless, the San Diego Loyalists got screwed.

Makes it very hard for me to get behind the MLS. I really struggle with it. I enjoyed heading to AU games the first 2 years, but it still always felt to fake to me. Poof now you have a top level soccer team out of thin air. No history etc.

No history etc. Most cities don’t have much history so no way to be anything except “fake” I agree that they should try to work with the USL clubs with followings but there are so cities (like ours) that would never have soccer if not for MLS making a team out of thin air. I don’t know the background on the San Diego decision. Was there any discussion with the Loyal?

USL is no different though. See: Chattanooga Red Wolves.
Our soccer federation is working exactly as it’s been designed. It’s a shame.

It is laughable that people value MLS teams at a billion dollars when they can’t draw 200k viewers on TV. It’s all about real estate development. Kinda ironic that it’s called MLS…

Are we really having a discussion about at best fifth and six tier teams if you look at it from a global perspective.

Not sure how USSF is to blame here. But San Diego MLS apparently reached out to Loyal about a partnership, but the USL club declined. They likely will be relocated or out of business within 2 years.

I don’t like it but I agree with your prediction. USSF is entirely to blame for giving the keys to MLS at the expense of everyone else. MLS has quite effectively made this happen under the watchful eyes of everyone.
