Who will stay up? Who will go down? Man, I wish there were that kind of drama in MLS.

Lots of great stories. The relegation battles and layering of cup competitions makes it compelling for so many teams.
Some people like a “reset” via playoffs - I dislike it because it negates the work done all season long. EPL certainly is imperfect - unlimited money puts a thumb on the scales - but to me it beats the crap out of a a league where fans admit, and demonstrate they’ll abandon their team if the team loses.

The FA has rules in place to deal with “unlimited money”; however, for $ome reason they choo$e not to.

Goodbye to Leicester, Leeds and Southampton. Not good for the USMNT unless Adams and McKennie leave. I think they both will. Aaronson might benefit from a year in the Championship

Goodbye to Leicester, Leeds and Southampton. What a rapid fall for Leicester City. Won the premier league in the 2015-2016 season. Finished in the top 10 pretty much ever season since this with a couple of top 5 finishes. Then drop from 8th to out in one year.

Why does America love a capitalist meritocracy.. unless it’s pro sports?

Why does America love a capitalist meritocracy.. unless it’s pro sports? …because it’s better than anything anyone else has come up with. Off topic for the thread, but IMHO, capitalism isn’t the problem…cronyism is the problem…but I think most Americans either want less corruption or more opportunity to participate in it if we are being perfectly honest.

Why does America love a capitalist meritocracy.. unless it’s pro sports? Capitalist Egalitarian Meritocracy, thank you very much. Squeeze every soccer team and academy at every level, every soccer player no matter their age, and every soccer fan no matter their socioeconomic status into a region of the United States no bigger than Georgia and you’ll get your wish. Until we flush the current generation of U.S. soccer people in charge - fifty something’s that are either foreign flunkies or were horrible American athletes in the 80s that only played soccer because they were cut from the debate team (yes, I’m talking about a lot of you) - we will continue to try and emulate systems that don’t work for our reality in this country while still being 10-15 years behind in scouting and development practices. The next generation of soccer leaders will be no better - it will take the teenage players currently dealing with the garbage they see around them in the sport to make a difference.

Do I understand you correctly.. they “want less corruption” unless (they) personally benefit from it? Seems pretty accurate to me. Back OT.. I’m glad Everton didn’t go down. For the Merseyside derby. Sad for the clubs that fell but I’m glad that under-performers will be placed with peers of a similar level. It’s healthier than making them run out against much better competition for another season. It should make both divisions better - which is the whole point of P/R.

The three stories of the English Football Season are Arsenal bombing after leading the league for most of the season, Wrexham getting promoted, and of course the shenanigans and jokes that will be at the expense of newly promoted Luton Town into the Premier League and their interesting stadium setup...

Ha. Arsenal didn’t “bomb.” They did well with a young squad. They also didn’t break the financial fair play rules… The rest of your post I can go along with.

When I visited Anfield last summer it didn’t look too different. Right in the middle of a neighborhood - they’ve just bought more of the surrounding properties over the years to create a little room. I think the Luton stadium is awesome.

McKennie was on a loan deal wasn’t he?
Edit: he has already departed.

He does, but he also was on the worst XI list by a stats company. Maybe he would benefit from a year in the Championship. I found the info about McKennie returning to Juventus who did loan him out. Still have not seen anything about Adams except that he was likely to leave. He was injured, hamstring surgery

Dang. Surgery for a hammy?!? I don’t know the details for him but usually hamstring surgery is not for a pulled hamstring, it is for an avulsion of the tendon off from the bone. Most of the time it tears off from the ischium which is the part of the pelvic bone that you sit on. Less commonly it gets pulled off from the fibula. The repair is done by drilling holes in the bone and using suture anchors to attach the tendon back to the bone.
