In our experience, he was mean, not tough. My kid joined in at a few ECNLR practices. We left GSA because the next step for her was ECNLR and my daughter's limited experience with him left a really bad taste in her mouth. He lacks clear communication with parents and players get in trouble if parents ask too many questions. I know of several other families who have left GSA because of him, and a couple that refused to tryout for a higher level team because they didn't want to risk being put on his roster. Of course, he's a coach so I'm sure there are other people that love him..
His 07 team did well this year, but he also had a lot of talent to work with.

Our friends had him at GSA and does not have anything positive to say about him. He does not treat players well and communication is not a strength for him (constant state of chaos)!

I probably don't need to add on here, but I will.
Just about the entire 07 girls team at GSA was prepared to leave this year when the plan was for him to return as the coach. Once it was decided he would not be coaching them, most decided to stay. He had already lost quite a few players the previous year because the players & parents refused to deal with him as the coach.
He places blame on individual players when things don't go well, and he does it in front of everyone else.
While my daughter thinks he is a good coach, she wouldn't want to play for him. He might know what he is doing in regards to soccer, he certainly has issues dealing with players & parents.

We have a different experience with coach Carnel Creary. He coached my daughter's team U10 three years ago at GSA South and the majority of those girls are now the core of GSA U13 ECNL team. He taught the girls the fundamentals - play out from the back, passing the ball, play possession, and more importantly play the game the right way. We lost 90% of the games in his first year but he communicated with the parents and asked us to trust in the process. He's the best coach that my daughter has thus far. He can come across as arrogant but I believe he has good intention. Definitely tough love coaching style and very direct with the girls.

Both times our 06 ECNL-R girls played his teams last fall he pulled up 3-5 07 ENCL girls onto his roster to win the games. Given that the 06 team already had 17-18 girls on the roster I'm not really sure how this worked out both times. I'm curious if we were the only team this happened with? The ECNL girls were the only ones to score for them and played the majority of the games.

Carnell coached my daughter’s RL team this past year. I found him to be a good coach and strong motivator. With that said, he is intensely focused on process and execution for both players and officials. We had one match where he was within his right to protest a call, but never let up and was thrown into a fence by an AR. That game was suspended. During league play, another incident occurred with an official, coach was carded twice within a few minutes and he pulled the team off the field. That latter incident was not reported and when coach found out management did not agree with his viewpoint, he quit on site. Stories from the other RL team under his leadership are not as dramatic, but not necessarily positive. Looking forward to see how this plays out!

I cannot refute your statement, but can say I’ve never seen an ECNL player play down on RL for GSA on any of my children’s teams. More so, GSA leadership would prefer to avoid having their ECNL players injured to fluff a record for an RL team.
