What is the issue with 05/06 girls teams?!? UFA did not fill its third team which will be playing SAPL based on their instagram post looking for players. You are too (Rush Union?) Is the lack of quality 05/06 girls available a sign of continued decrease in the number of female player or is the a fluke of an age group? I mean there should be a lot of players born in that 16 month period and teams can’t fill up?!?!

2006 age group has always be a very large age group. It must be kids leaving soccer for their senior year of HS.

2005 Girls was a very small age group and a majority of the players were spring birthdays. This was that group that when the age mandate hit jumped from U10 to U12 so a lot of mid/low level players quit as they struggled with the three year change. 6v6 then 9v9 then 11v11 all in a three year period.

I have an 05 and there was not a numbers issue there compared to many other age groups. At least not until their Junior and Senior years. The 08 and 2010 age groups are small compared to 09 and 07 age groups. But I do think the age mandate had a small effect but not a lot as when my kid made the switch they still had a lot of teams. I feel that Covid played a bigger role as these kids were in 8th and 9th grade and it messed up extracurricular times. Some people wouldn’t let their kids play and many more got ill and missed out due to that or the vast number of injuries that occurred with inadequate acclimation periods.

You also have really dropped some knowledge on this topic. It's taken some convincing to keep my daughter in soccer. She loves playing, but the over working and poor care they take of our kids burns them out. Yes, us as parents have a part to play too. U14 from what I've seen and heard is a huge turning point for a lot of youth soccer players. One year of select under their belts ... with girls ... do I like my teammates? Is my high school team any good? With all the money we pay, weight training and agility should be included at least starting at U15 she balance out the strain that's put on these kids.

Several clubs have a coach who does band work with the kids and core strength stuff, but I agree there is not enough strength and proper mechanics training incorporated or even quality coaches outside of the clubs. My older kid had a trainer or two doing way too much on a pre teen or early teen. It took a while to find the right person.

I agree that many would not like this, but Tophat and Concorde have “travel” teams for third teams so it isn’t like there aren’t kids out there that want to do it. Last year AFU had a third team that was a travel team and plans to this year too. This team is not a travel team and is having trouble filling. Honestly the soccer world is a mess. There are a lot of good quality players who quit the game due to the sick way it is run. There are many kids I know very well who turned down spots to get away from it. Mine included. I keep seeing these posts on social media saying only 7% are able to play at the collegiate level. I would say there are twice that number that could play but have chosen not to so they don’t have to endure the trauma anymore or because they just want college to be “fun.”

Nothing wrong with that. Once you get over the shock, it’s quite pleasant honestly.

Nothing wrong with that. Once you get over the shock, it’s quite pleasant honestly. Nothing wrong with leaving to pursue other interests. There IS A LOT WRONG when they leave because they have been verbally abused for one or more years. Heard recently from a player I know that a coach to them to go kill themselves because they were a “waste of air.” Another coach got relieved of his duties for undisclosed (to players and parents) verbal abuse outside of practice. If the coaches would keep it fun and kind people would stay. Clubs do need to realize that many kids do not want to keep playing travel weekends in high school, especially as juniors and seniors.

Wow that’s totally different from the picture I was imagining (of a kid who just got tired of trying to please the parents by playing beyond their interest and love for the game). If that story is confirmed.. that coach is a monster that needs to be outed.

I think the person replied to earlier posts stating that UFA SAPL is a travel team meaning they do out of state travel a few times per season for regular season games not including college. showcases. So I was using their term. AFU and UFA have joined Tophat and Concorde in having their third (or lower) teams that play in leagues that require out of state travel. ECRL, DPL, SAPL, Elite 64.

In addition to that clearly abusive and inappropriate comment from that one coach, there are many kids that don’t like it anymore because they are tired of always being yelled at by the coaches and their teammates. They love to play casually but don’t want the politics and internal games that coaches and players play. Another girl I know is planning to quit a high level team and form a rec team with her friends so they can play but not commit all of their weekends and social life to soccer but also so they can coach themselves. A novel idea. Kind of like playing in the park or on the streets in these other nations where they just enjoy the game.

The literal same thing as CLUB SOCCER in college which I wish more players would recognize as an actual respectable way to continue to play the sport they love!

Absolutely is a great way to play the game they love. These kids that I am speaking of are juniors and seniors in high school. Honestly it would be cool for these kids to play without a parent coach. Each kid could be coach for a day and run the practices and/or games. Frankly they might get better than they would with a “real” coach. 😂

A friend’s son plays club soccer at UGA and it’s very good quality soccer but not a full time job for them.
