Can anyone point me in the right direction to get information on what it takes to start a new club/break away from my current club? This is for just select/peidmont level teams. I understand you would need become an affiliate with GYSA, but I can't find out clearly what that takes to obtain and maintain ie. fees, programs you have to offer.

It’s been a few years since I saw the rules but if you want to be affiliated with Ga Soccer you needed to have a Rec program for at least 2 years and then you could start an Academy team. Believe it was at least 2 more years from that to get a U13 Select team eligible for Piedmont play.
Best bet is to email Ga Soccer to get the current guidelines as all of that above is from the pre-SCCL days.

That might be in the rules, but it’s universally ignored. GA Soccer has recently allowed multiple clubs in without having a Rec program for two years, or at all.
I think you pretty much just have to petition for membership. New Clubs are brought up to vote at the AGM and SAGM.
Some of the votes have been quite entertaining.

I wonder if it’s a “who you know type of deal? Because I know of a specific instance where they were told no-they have to be affiliated with a Rec program.

I absolutely believe clubs have been told that, probably depending on location. I have found it amusing that some clubs have petitioned to join, caused out and out arguments at meetings and denied membership, then all of a sudden being welcomed with open arms—-then almost immediately pulling most of their kids out of GA Soccer for other leagues. I get it. I just found it amusing. In our case we’re a small Rec club with only a couple of entry level younger “competitive” teams. We farm all of our kids who sho promise to other clubs where they can grow appropriately. (We’re all volunteers so we aren’t losing money)

I know that looking for another club to join and act as a satellite group basically paying them a fee to use their affiliate status is also an option. The other coaches and I are all volunteer/non-paid coaches, so we are looking for information and options. The rec program was what I was worried about though. Having the extra coaches to run rec teams is our issue. Are you allowed to make agreements with your local county rec or YMCA to use their rec programs to satisfy the rec requirement?

Many smaller clubs have this type of arrangement.
