What is going on with TopHat Gold G2010?
Ranked #2 in the country but lost their first 3 league games in GA Southeast?
New Coach?
Lost Players/Talent?

What is going on with TopHat Gold G2010? Ranked #2 in the country but lost their first 3 league games in GA Southeast? New Coach? Lost Players/Talent? Injuries? I do know they lost one player from last year to another club and maybe another (not 100% sure of second). Outside of that, not sure. Back in August, they played in a pre-season tournament and lost to GSA 2010 ECNL and tied with CESA 2010 ECNL which was surprising based on their dominance last year, but both these teams are very good. It is still early in the season and they have a good squad of girls, so I am sure they will do well. |

I wouldn't put too much stock in wins/losses either way, especially with the younger teams. Hopefully ECNL will do the right thing and finally give TH a ECNL slot so the club can get some forward momentum |

Yes, the older groups still have a lot of legit teams and some call ups. That's why I noted not to put too much weight on the *younger groups in GA. The current GA teams that stayed somewhat together through the DA disbanding are in a different spot than the younger teams. There's not really a debate about call-ups: most are from ECNL clubs (and 70%+ D1 girls players are from ECNL) As far as TH "turning down joining ECNL several times"- I would debate the validity of that claim, especially in light of TH actually suing ECNL for not letting them into ECNL. Some of the Georgia soccer historians in here can maybe shed some light on that. |

Judging from the name of the OP and their reference to Cali teams, it's safe to assume this is a cali/west-coast parent just looking for some answers.
And, to be fair, GA is still strong/robust out west, which is probably why this is seemingly an issue for this parent.
I can only speak to the girl's side of this issue, and can say that Top Hat, specifically, is not *the premiere destination for girls in Georgia that it perhaps once was (because they are in a weaker league in GA,)
I know several parents of younger players who, by their own admission, would have otherwise considered TH in the past, but don't now because of the perceived trajectory of GA.
Does that apply to the 2010s OP is asking about? I dont know.
But, at the very least, TH has a perception issue.
Crucify me if you must
Are their any TH parents here who can speak to this issue in the younger (gold) teams and how/if it has affected the club?

If you’re worried about fictional team rankings you’re pretty lame. You do know it’s fictional right? If your daughter is in GA you all will settle it on the pitch. I’d she’s in ECNL just go when your conference. |

While we may bicker amongst ourselves here like family, we are wary of outsiders who question our own. The real information is that we are talking about U13s, so current 12 and maybe 13 year-old girls. Putting things in perspective and trying to wrap your head around why they do anything is akin to solving a quantitative analysis problem. In other words, I say again, they are 12 and 13 year-olds. I think you should take your issue up with the voters and owner of the dime-a-dozen ranking website you seem to be giving to much legitimacy. I'm hearing, next month, they'll be ranked Numero Uno 🙂🙃🙂 |

Does it really matter where they are ranked or what is going on at the moment in regards to wins/losses? These are 12/13 year old kids. Maybe the coach is playing people in different places to make them better rounded soccer players. Maybe the coach is playing some of the lower players on the team more to help them develop. Maybe the coach is more concerned with teaching the players and making them better in the long run as opposed to chasing wins now.

However the reality is that TH is advertising that they're the #2 G2010 club in the nation predominately on the homepage of the clubs website. So someone cares. BTW TH has slipped from #2 to #6 and if the losses keep happening this trend will continue. This is why I asked if something was up with the team. It's unusual to be so dominate then lose left and right. |

They lost two games according to the GA Academy standings both by 1 goal. They also beat IMG Academy 7-0. A place where people spend thousands of dollars for their children to be the best...
All your post does is let everyone on this forum know you have way too much time on your hands. I cannot think of a time I was ever worried about what a team in California was doing. Rankings, especially at the youth level are meaningless. UNC is now ranked 3rd in the nation and BYU went from 1st to 8th, UGA is unranked. That does not mean that any of the teams are incapable of decimating anyone on any day. Germany went into the WWC ranked second in world and were knocked out during the group stages by Korea and Colombia. Rankings, especially at the youth level are meaningless. If rankings were the deciding factor on who wins or loses a game there would be no point in playing.
I suggest focusing on your own team and stop worrying what a bunch of 13 year olds are doing with their lives and the fact that they lost two games. Or were you coming here looking for everyone to jump on board and publicly shame them? Tophat will always be one of the top girls' clubs in the nation. Every time Emily Sonnett is named to a roster it's proven over and over. Learn to deal with this fact or find another sport.
We don't enjoy speculating about children here.

Two things: 1) Rankings for youth teams are stupid. 2) Emily Sonnett came up through pre-merger NASA. The Tophat side of that merger has a bunch of successful alums to choose from to back up your point, but Emily Sonnett isn't one of them. |

Either way it doesn't matter. Over time TH will get better, stay the same, or get worse.

I’m blown away that somebody 2000 miles away cares, especially considering leagues are in constant flux, players come and go to try to improve their own (or their team’s) chances. Teams also take time to gel. So maybe they won’t repeat as national champs, or maybe they will. They’ll still be only 13.
Probably better if “insider” parents don’t disclose reasons anyway lest they get accused of stirring the pot. No good will come from that.
