“The women actually might start getting paid.”
I hope people watch-i hope the product gets better…but I’ve been hoping for that in MLS since 1996.

Lol. I saw that story brought back up again also. I also found it interesting Carli allegedly said that the boys should have won because they were bigger, faster and stronger? Wouldn’t that negate the argument that women are just as good as men if the best women in the country can’t beat some teenagers?

That argument is negated by the fact that men/women don't play with one another (for the obvious reasons that men are bigger, faster, stronger.) I enjoy women's soccer because I have daughters who play soccer, and they watch women's soccer and we enjoy it together. The "quality" of the soccer is sort of irrelevant if you're comparing it to men's soccer. It's not fair to compare the two.

I watched the regional U15F ODP team and they comprehensively beat a fine U14M ECRL team early in the fall. The skill gap and tactical awareness gap there was more than enough to makeup for any physical gap, how was that not the case for the USWNT?

At U15 my daughter trained with a U14 one level below what she was doing and was clearly superior to these boys to the point that in scrimmages they were fighting over whose team she would play on. My thought is that the boys team that USWNT played against must have had some physical beasts. My U15 girl was faster than these U14 boys and bigger but U15 boys are usually pretty small too (on average). I could see the women losing to a U17 team but U15 is surprising

My daughter plays Futsal against boys 1 + 2 years up.
Boys + girls just play differently.
Boys tend to go direct a lot + use power and physical aggressiveness to move the ball forward. Girls tend to use passing and posession to move the ball forward. Posession doesn't work against players that are bigger, faster, and more aggressive. If girls were the same size as men + equally fast and aggressive posession would easily win over direct.
So it's not that top talent women soccer players aren't as good as guys. It more that at the highest levels everyone is amazing + things like size, speed, power will beat equally skilled opponents.

How is it not fair to compare the two when we constantly have people claiming that their daughter played with boys and ran rings around them? For the longest people would put down the USMNT because they can’t win the World Cup but the women can. When you have evidence such as this…… you want to sweep it under the rug. Most people that watch women’s soccer have girls, plain and simple. The women’s game is not good at all to watch, in fact I would say there are a lot of players who should not be professional but hey they keep expanding the league. You lose to teenagers and your excuse is they should have beat you? I don’t get that at all.

You lose to teenagers and your excuse is they should have beat you? I don’t get that at all. Umm look at the post right above yours. I said that my daughter plays with boys and yes she tends to get worked. This does not mean that men are specifically better than women at soccer. It more about at the highest levels EVERYONE is amazing + has skills. For men throw in size, speed, + aggressiveness because of testosterone and women just can't compete with equivalent age men. At the highest levels any kind of edge makes the difference between winning and losing. Regarding women's soccer as a sport it's the best women's sport played. What are the alternatives? Women's basketball? Sorry not interested in 8 foot tall female sasquatches bouncing a ball + never dunking. Women's softball? For me both baseball and softball suck. Women's softball is kind of interesting because they pitch closer + underhand. Women's Volleyball? Maybe beach volleyball is exciting because they wear swimsuits. Women's Hockey? Lacrosse? Rugby? Swimming? My point is that the only women's sport that's decent to watch (in my opinion) is Women's Soccer. It's the same game as men's soccer and the players aren't mutants + they're incredibly skilled and cutthroat which makes games more exciting to watch

I was mocked and degraded last week for not knowing appropriate male/female english euphemisms and expressions, so you all just go at it. edit: the people talking about girls playing with boys are clearly talking about either 1) pre-pubescent boys and/or 2) 2nd/3rd team/ rec level boys

I could see a top U15G team hanging with a young U14B team a level down. Move that ahead a year to U16G v U15B and I think the results switch pretty handily. Girls almost always hit puberty ahead of boys. 7th grade girls often look like women while 7th grade boys look like, well, little boys. By 8th grade it flips, certainly by 9th grade. When my girls played HS, the post-season prep was for the girls to regularly scrimmage the boys JV team. If they could keep the boys from scoring, they knew they could beat any girls team. Note, I didn't say beat the boys, just keep them from scoring... In 4 years they won state once, the other 3 years whichever team beat them took the title easily.

I could see the women losing to a U17 team but U15 is surprising Well, in the article it actually shows one of the players from the U15 team standing next to several USWNT team players.... I would say that it backs the Carli Lloyd statement pretty clearly. It also states that the boy was Tanner Tessman... "Tessman is currently listed by the USMNT team as supplemental slots 29-30 and is signed to play with Venezia FC in Italy’s Serie A." It's not like this was some average U15 boys team (That's what everyone who tells the story make it sound like). This was an FC Dallas top-tier team, so this should make it MUCH more understandable with a visual representation of who they were playing. Imagine any of those in the picture going up for a header against this U15 player and you get the point! The womens game is just different than the mens. Both can be entertaining or crap, but I wouldn't go as far as to say the only people who watch womens soccer are the ones who have girls, though that is a solid base for the womens game. And is there anything wrong with having womens team to aspire to? It seems to me they make for some incredible, individual human beings, at least the ones I have met at the youth level (and not adult one in the lower left picture, haha).

He is a beast and bigger than most high school freshman boys even at their accelerated growth rates of today. Having treated a large number of high school athletes from all sports he is definitely in the top 10-15% of physical maturity for a 14 year old boy. I watched women’s soccer more than men’s well before I had girls, but I also played soccer. My main reason for liking women’s over men’s was that they were less whiny about fouls and they also did more attacking 1v1. Both of those things have changes over the years. Women have gotten more into the histrionics of trying to get a foul called (though not as much) and more male players have elevated their game above their peers and had the confidence to take on people 1v1. In addition the quality of soccer worldwide in both women’s and men’s has improved so much over the last 10 years! Wow! I watched an amazing match today between Chelsea and Man City with so many intricate runs and great individual efforts. Very entertaining! Last night’s NWSL final was a fun game to watch with a better match. Rose had some great individual play and Midge Purce was so fantastic! She really needs to be one of our options for the USWNT as she is an option for both wing and outside back so in smaller roster scenarios that is a big help!!

The skill gap and tactical awareness gap there was more than enough to makeup for any physical gap, how was that not the case for the USWNT? well, imagine if it was boxing. Wondering if this was my boy's team. They played a u15 girls team that consisted of girls who were vying for USWT. It was a competitive game, ended up 3-1 girls. Last Spring the same boys team (well, mostly the same players) got absolutely waxed by a similar girls team. Just six months or so removed, the difference in size was profound. The then u-14 girls looked like grown women and were taller, faster, and stronger on average than practically every u-13 boy. And their skill was infinitely better. It was a joy to watch them and I considered it a great lesson for the boys. But in just six months the boys had physically caught up and in some cases surpassed the girls. Skills were still stronger with the girls for sure, but it made for a more competitive contest. Still enjoyed watching the way these talented young women played the game.
