Have a freshmen goalkeeper trying out for Highbschool varsity team. We could transfer to another school and probably start varsity or stay at current school and may not make varsity as a starter and play jv. What choice would be better for continued development and resume for college. Thanks

No disrespect but based on my experience, college coaches are not super concerned about how your kid is doing in high school soccer. The focus should “generally” be on club soccer if you’re working towards playing in college. I’m sure there are exceptions to the rule perhaps for GK….but college scouts are simply not lined up to watch/recruit high school soccer. Although I found hs soccer much more competitive at the state playoff/championship level.

Most coaches attend college soccer showcases because of the number of players vs. a highschool game where they focus on 1 maybe 2. By u15, your player needs to be playing at one of the Big 5 in Atlanta if possible or AU.

Thanks If you have a son, he should go wherever his friends are and where he will have the most fun and get a good education. I am not familiar with the girls side, so I can't comment. You should do a lot of research in what it means to play soccer in college as a guy. Average scholarship amount, what is the commitment level, what is the playing time assumption, number of kids on roster, number of internationals. You should also do some research in where top players are going to play in college from the Atlanta area. Are those the colleges you envisioned for a top athlete? Lastly, be prepared for everything to be derailed. One bad coach, not playing your son at Goalie and he rides the bench, gives up the sport. One bad injury, he rediscovers life outside of soccer. One hard class in high school, he can no longer commit to practice commitments. 4 years from now will look a lot different than it does today with your family and your thoughts on soccer, right now you are in the peak year of soccer craziness for kids/parents. Obviously disregard this if your kid is playing for AU, trying out for the national team when they come into town, whatever. My comments above are for the other 99.5% of families in ATL.
