Not sure about the other divisions but looks like eight of the top nine 6A boys teams playing in the elite eight.

Round 2 is in the books and we're down to the final eight. Most of the games went as expected but the one semi shocker was Colquitt County beating Pebblebrook 1-0. On paper it would seem that Colquitt County should have been the favorite(16-2-1 records, 75 GF and only 17GA... but 6 games account for 42 of their goals) And their two previous games were 1-0 victories against Lee County and Brookwood, not exactly tough competition. Pebblebrook came in with a 11-7-1 record scoring 67 goals with 33 against. But it's Metro Atlanta vs South Georgia and those games tend to go to the Metro team. Credit to Colquitt for riding the home field advantage and doing what it takes to survive and advance. They get Region 6 #2 Kennesaw Mountain, a 2-1 winner N. Gwinnett , at home next week. KM finished second in a weak region and went 11-8-1 on the season, so I think Colquitt County keeps it going with another home win. How different this part of the bracket might look if South Forsyth had not flamed out so early. Yes there was a horrendous penalty awarded for a foul 5+ yards outside of the box. But you're South Forsyth, probably one of the top 3 teams in 7a this year. N. Gwinnett should have never been in the game. The most interesting game to me was Milton at Collins Hill which Milton came out on top 1-0. Collins Hill finally breaks the playoff curse streak of losing to Forsyth County teams (2018 L Lambert 3-0, 2021 L 1-0 Forsyth Central, 2022 W Forsyth 1-0, 2023 L Lamber in PK's) only to lose to a team that is now in the same Regions as all of the Forsyth teams. Maybe it's the region and not the county. Anyway, Milton moves on to face Archer on the road. Don't know much about South Gwinnett at Campbell other than a 1 vs 4 match that I assume played out as expected with Campbell taking the 4-2 win. They will be the home team next week but a definite underdog as they will be playing... Lambert who beat Walton 4-1 in a replay of last years State Championship game. Walton had the early energy going up 1-0 in the first 10 minutes, but Lambert tied the game 10 minutes later and never looked back taking a 2-1 lead in the first half and netting 2 more goals in the second half. The game got a bit ugly late in the second half with 2 Walton payers getting red cards. Both were with less than 3 minutes to go in the game and a case of frustration seeing the season come to an end to the same team 2 years in a row. Lambert beat Campbell 4-0 early this year so they have to be the favorite, but you never like having to play a team a second time in the playoffs. Discovery easily beat Osborne 3-0 and that was exactly what was expected. That win sets up a 1 seed vs 1 seed contest as Greyson beat East Coweta 1-0. I was a bit surprised by the score as I would have put Greyson as a 3 goal favorite. The Final round 2 game looks to have been a defensive slug fest as Archer beat Carrolton, after a 0-0 tie in regulation and OT, in PK's 4-2. So my picks for Final 4 - Milton vs Lambert and Discovery vs Colquitt County Regions Representation in the final 8: Region 1: 1 Region 2: 1 Region 3: 0 Region 4: 2 Region 5: 1 Region 6: 2 Region 7: 1 Region 8: 0 Seeds Remaining in final 8 1 Seed: 4 2 Seed: 3 3 Seed: 1 4 Seed: 0 Scoreboard Top 10 And Last Result 1. Lambert: Beat Walton in Round 2 2. Discovery: Beat Osborne in Round 2 3. Grayson: Beat East Coweta in Round 2 4. Milton: Beat Collins Hill in Round 2 5. Archer: Beat Carrolton in PK's 6. Collins Hill: Lost to Milton in Round 2 7. Pebblebrook: Lost to Colquitt County in Round 2 8. Hillgrove: Lost to Carrolton in Round 1 9. Walton High School: Lost to Lambert in Round 2 10. South Forsyth: Lost to North Gwinnett in Round 1 Max Preps Top 10 1. Milton 2. Lambert 3. Discovery 4. Hillgrove: Out 5. East Coweta: Out 6. Grayson 7. Colquitt County 8. Carrolton: Out 9. Collins Hill: Out 10. Peachtree Ridge: Out What's going on in other regions? I would like to see the McIntosh vs Dalton 5A game. And the Johns Creek vs North Forsyth 6A game. Johns creek beat N Forsyth 4-0. 6A boys Elite 8 Glynn Academy Vs Lassiter Sprayberry vs Woodward Johns creek vs N Atlanta River Ridge vs Riverwood

So who do you see as the final 4 in 6A? Johns Creek vs River Ridge Lassiter Vs Sprayberry JC, Lassiter and Sprayberry all from Region 7. RR ranked 1st, and JC ranked 2nd all season. That’s going to be a great game. Could go either way. Lassiter and Sprayberry could go either way, but having seen both teams play this year, my bet is on Sprayberry. I think either RR or JC will be state champs.

Region 6 in 7A is like that. This year you had South Forsyth, Lambert and Milton. South won the league but Lambert and Milton are the two left in the playoffs and will likely play each other in the final 4. In region South beat Lambert in PK's, Lambert beat Milton in regulation, and Milton beat South in OT. Currently Lambert is #1 and Milton # 2 on Max Preps and on Scorbord Lambert is #1 and Milton #4.
Next year the region drops Milton (5A) but adds North Atlanta and North Forsyth. 6 of the 9 should be decent teams with the top 3 or 4 ranking up there.
In region playoff games are always intense.

North Atlanta over JC 4-3 Yeah what a joke of a game. Talk about awful refs. AR missed JCHS’s first goal because he’s not in position, then the center missed a call that should have been a yellow and PK. Add in the multiple issues with the NAHS students that’s probably going to bite them in the arse with GHSA later. For soccer purist let’s hope River Ridge wins the coin toss to host or demands a neutral site with real security.

Sharing up as a monumental night in 7a.
Lambert is out. Having watched the game I'll say that Lambert is the better team but I think that Campbell was the better team tonight. Couple of thoughts... first for Campbell. The Campbell coaches had a plan, struck with it, and it worked for the most part. Their plan was to play boom ball, putting every chance possible in the box. They were able for about 2/3rds of the game to control possession denying Lambert the opportunity to create scoring opportunities. Not a fan of boom ball but having lost to Lambert earlier this year 4-0, you have to give the coaches credit for coming up with a strategy that worked.
For Lambert I think their defensive injuries over the season finally caught up with them (Losing two left center backs and a left fullback. In addition I think it mattered that their coach has been out for the playoffs recovering from a medical issue. The game featured a penalty and a lot of offsides called against Lambert... some correct and some questionable. Still in the end for the first time since last years State Championship game their defense conceded 3 goals. Campbell made the most of their opportunities and earned the right to move on.
Archer and Milton looked to be a tight one as well with Archer taking the 1-0 win in overtime. Look forward to hearing more about this game but a second home team comes out on top.
Not sure how to predict a winner to move on to the Championship game, but if Archer has any size I probably lean their way.
On the other side I think Colquitt County's ride ended as expected. Hats off to them for making it this far but in then end I think they faced a weak season schedule and a weak playoff schedule. I'm not sure Kennesaw Mountain is a top 4 team but they are moving on to the final 4 after a 2-1 win. The bus ride home should feel a lotr shorter than the ride down there.
In what I think might have been the championship deciding game, Discovery took down Greyson 2-1. This was a #3 vs #4 match and Discovery has to be the favorite to take the title. But as tonight has shown anything can happen.
Final thought... I have to think that South Forsyth, Lambert and Milton are all kicking themselves for having off games and not moving deeper into the bracket. These were teams that had what it takes to win a championship. But, every team that sent them packing was an underdog that stepped up and earned a win. So Good luck to the final 4 teams. Go take what's meant to be yours.

JC student section targeted players by name and jersey number all night. Hung on fences and tore down senior banners for NA’s girls lacrosse team. But hey, it’s the refs and resource officers fault. If JC supporters are being honest with themselves, they will tell you the game wasn’t in doubt for most of the second half (4-2 for 25 mins; 4-3 with 4mins left). Maybe schedule tougher competition during the regular season so the playoffs isn’t the first time those young men experience stress. Good Luck Next Season!

A lot of great semi-finals matchups.
Healthy debate... is Cass High School the most surprising success for 5A/High School this year? Great matchup they against Decatur Friday night. Decatur tied North ATL earlier and Cass beat Kennesaw Mtn to open the season.
7A surprises: didn't think both Archer and Kennesaw Mtn would make it this far in the playoffs.
I don't see any slouches for matchups in semi-finals all should be close and hard fought.

Some of the team's my son played against were the following teams- Centennial, Milton, Chattahoochee, Decatur, Blessed Trinity, John's Creek, Lassiter , Sprayberry and South Forysth.
In my opinion the two best teams of out that group were Decatur and Sprayberry. and I believe Decatur's roster is mainly underclassmen so they will be strong for a while.

7A Final 4 matchups are tomorrow night and it will be interesting to see who moves on. Discovery vs Kennesaw Mountain and Campbell vs Archer... East vs west, Lawrencevile versus I75 corridor in both matches.
Last week I predicted "So my picks for Final 4 - Milton vs Lambert and Discovery vs Colquitt County". Good thing I'm not a betting person.
Regions Representation in the final 4:
Region 1: 0 Region 2: 1 Region 3: 0 Region 4: 1 Region 5: 1 Region 6: 0 Region 7: 1 Region 8: 0
Seeds Remaining in final 8
1 Seed: 2 2 Seed: 2 3 Seed: 0 4 Seed: 0
Scoreboard Top 10 And Last Result
1. Discovery: Previously #2. Beat Greyson in Round 3 2. Archer: Previous #5. Beat Milton in OT in Round 3 3. Campbell: Previously unranked. eat #1 Lambert in Round 3. 4. Kennesaw Mountain: Previously unranked. Beat unranked Colquitt County in Round 3. 5. Lambert: Former #1 lost to Campbell in Round 3. 6. Milton: Previous #4. Lost to Archer in Round 3. 7. Grayson: Previous #3. Lost to Discovery in Round 3. 8. Collins Hill: Lost to Milton in Round 2 9. Hillgrove: Lost to Carrolton in Round 1 10. Colquitt County: Previously unranked but moves into top 10 even with loss. Lost to Keneesaw Mountain in Round 3.
Dropped out
Previous 7. Pebblebrook: Lost to Colquitt County in Round 2 Previous 9. Walton High School: Lost to Lambert in Round 2 Previous 10. South Forsyth: Lost to North Gwinnett in Round 1
Max Preps Top 10 - New rankings have not come out since 4/29, beforeRound 3
1. Lambert: Lost to Campbell - Out 2. Milton: Lost to Archer - Out 3. Discovery: Beat Greyson - Final 4 4. Greyson: Lost to Discovery - Out 5. Hillgrove: Out 6. Colquitt County: Lost to Kennesaw Mountain - Out 7. Collins Hill: Out 8. Archer: Beat Milton - Final 4 9. East Coweta: Out 10. South Forsyth: Out
Not in the top 10 but still playing:
12. Campbell: Beat Lambert - Final 4 19. Kennesaw Mountain - Final 4
Match Ups: Kennesaw Mountain (12-8-1, 36GF, 32GA) at Discovery (18-2-1, 46GF, 17GA) I have not seen KM play but looking at their schedule, results, goals scored and goal allowed and quite simply KM should not be going to the final 4. They've benefitted from a weak playoff schedule - Central Gwinnett was 10-7-1, N. Gwinnett was 8-8-1 and somehow cleared South Forsyth out of the way in round 1, and Colquitt County, while 16-3-1, never played a team North of Macon during the regular season and feasted on weak competition. All that said , KM are in the Final 4. Play two inspired games, get a lucky break or two and they could finish the season on top.
Standing in their way is Discovery who have been consistent all year long, handled tougher competition and enjoy a 29 goal differential. And they are at home. I would say this is the Lock of the Week, but look how well I picked last week.
Archer (15-3-1, 67GF, 28GA) at Campbell (11-6-2, 61GF, 41GA) Comparing the records, schedules, goals scored and given up, this one seems like one to lean to Archer to get the win. Campbell's one advantage is playing at home. Will Boom Ball work against Archer the way it did against Lambert. It's not pretty soccer but it did produce a ton of opportunities last week. Any free kick from just beyond mid field or any throw in from the 20 are going to be put in the box where anything can happen. And a byproduct of that is the defending team scrambles to clear the ball turning possession back to Campbell. Lambert ceded too much possession allowing Campbell to dictate the game.
How will Archer handle the arial assault? Does their defensive back line have some height to clear some balls? I lean Archer but Campbell is playing hot at the right time.
My 7A State Championship prediction sees Discovery Vs Archer... Lawrenceville vs Lawrenceville... and Discovery winning it all.

I have no opinion on recruiting or not recruiting. Just looking at numbers. Based on Max Preps roster from last year to this year, and I have no clue if these are 100% accurate.
- They had 19 non seniors after last year. Of those 14 are on this years team and 5 are not.
- They have 16 new players on the team
- 36 of their 46 goals came from players on the team last year.
- Most of their assists came from players on last years team
-7 of 10 field players (based on minutes played reported) were on last years team. Two new players were Juniors and one sophomore.
I think they are just a team that got better and learned how to put the ball in the net and allow fewer goals. They scored 46 goals this year but only 21 last year. And they gave up 40 goals last year and only 17 this year. That's a big turn around between GF and GA.

How do you recruit for HS? I guess a player would have to appeal to go to a different HS than what would be "expected" based on residence?

Nope zero recruiting as GHSA denied all transfers statewide eligibility this spring. Even if you had a valid reason like student of a teacher they didn’t allow anyone to play this spring. (Can’t wait for ghsa to not exist in coming years, they’re less useful then the ncaa)
