I know all positions are important. But if you were building a team, which three field positions would you spend the most money on? Where will you start and why?

I would start with a beast center back, then take an attacking mid (who can also play holding if needed), and then the striker. Keep the middle strong and have each 1/3 covered with a strong player. As far as the money, no doubt the glory position of striker would want all the money, so he better be able to put the ball in the net.

Good choices. Like the idea of keeping the middle strong. But won't it be hard (not impossible) to play attacking and holding. Isn't Holding mid more demanding physically than attacking and you also run the risk of losing the creativity in the transition game? From my recollection one of the best holding midfielders was Makelele who played for Real Madrid, Chelsea and The French National team but the drawback on him was that he was not a very good passer. He was specialized in winning the ball and breaking attack. I would pick a CB, a straight up attacking mid and a striker. I would put my money on the attacking/creative midfielder. The ball needs to get to the striker.

Have to go with a #10 first. Someone with attacking flair but knows when to hold the ball. Someone who can singlehanded break down a defense, but loves to distribute. Also needs to be a durable dude. I can't have my franchise player with the physio more than he is on the pitch. And it cannot be someone that dives (you would think these guys would be embarrassed when they watch replays).
This is the type of player who can not only inspire a team, be the face and soul of the team, but would draw fans to your ground. I must say that I am a huge pirlo fan (dude can drop a football in a thimble from 40 yds), but this job is not for him. For me, everything flows from this player. The attack is built on this player's skill and decision making. The defense is bettered because of this player's ability to possess the ball. If it could be anyone, even someone retired, but who still likes to sit on the Real Madrid bench, who might it be? Hmmmm?

One of the great attributes that he had was that he was a team leader. He played with passion and love for the game.
