The only thing taken from the game was Mexico completely outplayed the US. Mexico looked more athletic and dominated. US has a lot to figure out.

I couldn't stay up too watch the whole game, but from what I saw... Mexico was hungry! They stayed organized and pressed... Hard! They didn't allow us the space to do anything, and it worked!

I didn’t see the game either. Thanks for posting the highlights!
The 2 goals from Mexico were legit, nice goals. From the highlights, Mexico looks like they generated much better chances on goal. US’s best shot was the one taken by Fox which was easily handled by the keeper. Not sure if Girma played at centerback and Mal Swanson is probably still out. However, looks like they had most of their lineup.
The US Team is rebuilding but there should only be a handful of teams able to test the US. Mexico ranked number 35 in the world wasn’t supposed to be one of them. Given the lack of chances they were able to generate and Mexico’s goals from distance, Oracle’s Friend might be spot on regarding the strength off the midfield. Only time will tell.

Maybe the players just aren't that smart...

Mexico hired a new coach & are headed in a new direction from youth up. Doesn’t mean they will be a top 10 team soon but certainly moving in a good direction. By the way, that coach won the World Cup with Spain’s U20 women’s side. I still think US will make the finals though. Or at least I hope they do. USWNT has an interim coach right now. Emma Hayes will take over the team this summer and things will change. They shouldn't have brought on Morgan give new blood a chance to lose.

Nothing will change in the youth system which is the root of the cause. US now has to play good soccer to actually win. New normal.

The team is in a lose lose position. We as fans only get engaged when they lose. When they win, we say, they should have won by more. When they tie, we say the sky is falling. When they lose we say tear the whole thing down. I didnt watch the game so I am not going to respond to the highlights. As others have mentioned Mexico hit the reset a couple of years back and are seeing the fruit. I loved the approach of "taking the game" to the US team. IMO that is the proper mentality. Plus lets not forget the US was already through to the next round. Yes its a rival, but they had nothing to gain by winning. If they win in the finals most of this will be forgotten.

I watched and honestly 2-0 doesn't even accurately reflect how Mexico dominated the game. It will be interesting to see what happens if they play again in the tournament phase.

Maybe the loss to Mexico lit a fire in the team and turned out to be a good thing. Saw that USWNT beat Canada in the semifinal game last night, with Emily Sonnett coming on in the second half to provide crucial minutes. The final vs Brazil should be a good game.

Game should have been cancelled. field conditions in the first half were unplayable. slightly better in the 2nd, but still was ridiculous. Hard to judge the team in those conditions -- the interesting piece was Jaedyn Shaw had nice goal, on a pass back from Canada where the ball literally just stopped in the water. Smith and Rose came off the bench -- smith had a nice banger to make it 2-1, but besides that and given the conditions, not much otherwise.
Davidson played pretty good, never been a fan of Girma. Horan did what she could but with Horan, Morgan, Rodman, Lynn Williams, everything is by brute force. Brazil game will be interesting to see if we show any composure and patience on the ball.
Not a fan of Coffey or Albert and both played alot and i didn't think had much of an impact.
again -- remember field conditions were a joke, not sure how a professional field doesn't drain properly. honestly didn't look like it drained at all
oh yea also interesting - Canada was allowed to make a sub before the pks, never seen that before...apparently later it was said it was due to concussion protocol and they were allowed to make the change.

The field was so wet the ball wasn't truly rolling.

Agree here. Watched the last 2 games . They kept the same starting lineup the last 2 matches and it works. The Canada game with all the rain, reminded me of an ECNL matchup one time in Tennessee where it dumped what seemed like a half foot of rain overnight and the grass was way too tall. We should have went home but played anyway…….. Not really good on evaluation but the US ladies played hard and with heart and found a way to win. The game before last against Columbia they looked really good and basically dominated against a Columbian team that went out to try and set the tone by being more physical. USWNT would have none of it. Jayden Shaw and Jenna Nighswonger were sensational, these kids can play!

Agree with everyone’s assessment about the last two games. Only thing I’d add is that the subs vs. Canada really provided a spark. Glad to see that we are not waiting until the 85th minute to sub like we did with Vlatko.

A slightly different lineup and formation than the previous 2 games. Rose Lavell (MF) and Crystal Dunn (OB) replaced Shaw and Nighswonger as starters and the US lined up in a 4-4-2 while Brazil was in a 3-4-3.
US played very well. Middle of the field was physical and looked like a war zone. Brazil had a slight edge on possession but none of their shots were on frame. IMO, possession percentage is often the most meaningless stat in soccer. This was a perfect example. Commentators were focusing on the slight edge Brazil had in possession but it ment absolutely nothing in deciding the outcome of the game.
US generated a couple good attempts including the score which was a powerful header by Horan. This was probably also Horan’s best game in the tournament. She plays very well in the physical midfield battle type games, was able to create some opportunities from the attacking mid position, and defensively they moved her back to 6 (defensive midfielder) late in the game to preserve the 1-0 win.
I was really impressed with Horan. She may end up being one of the best USWNT players of all time by the time she’s done.
