I just wanted to point out that DPL Open, which started as a showcase only option that allowed teams to test themselves against DPL and other Open teams and for those clubs’ players to get showcase opportunities, has changed. In several regions of the country they have or will have enough teams to make a league out of the Open teams. As far as I know now not every Open club will play in and Open regional division, but it appears the southeast will. As mentioned by allthingssoccer there will be 4-5 Georgia and 2-3 Carolina teams in the southeast. I have confirmation from a source that they will play in a league format. Currently the southeast Open division is LSA, Atlanta Albion (formerly known as AFU South or HCU depending how far back you want to go), Alpharetta Ambush, Carolina Velocity and James Island. So based on this info we have 1-2 GA and possibly one Carolina team left to be announced. The Open does allow the teams to play in their local leagues and do showcase options or in our cases play in 2 leagues. It is an opportunity to allow clubs to prove they are good enough for DPL. It may be a relegation option?? It may be a spot for current DPL clubs to add teams from satellite locations (?Tophat). It seems that we have another alphabet league which is bad, but this one may be set up in a good way as it leaves options OPEN to clubs and the league. Players from these teams will also be scouted for opportunities to be honored by the DPL in National Selection games.

If done as promotion relegation type thing, I don't know if I would consider it as another alphabet league. More of an extension of a current league. What's interesting is that if the DPL begins to use the DPL Open as a sort of secondary league, when they themselves are already a secondary league to GA. Maybe we can get true relegation between all three leagues one day, haha.

It just occurred to me, the NPL also has the new National Development League (NDL). Could that be what you're thinking of?

I agree that it could be good or bad. Yes DPL is secondary to GA and DPL Open is secondary to DPL. There is definitely promotion of clubs. I read in a press release that DPL said they had to make some cuts of their existing programs so there is the potential that they dropped into Open but since they did not mention names I don’t know. The NDL includes DPL and DPL Open.
