Walton at Buford - A rematch of an early season game where Walton lost 1-0 in a very tight matchup. Walton traveled to Buford in a rematch of the 2nd Round playoff game from the previous year where Walton won 2-1.
Based off of Walton's schedule, it looks like they wanted to challenge themselves early in the season with Harrison and Buford in back-to-back games. Walton lost both 2-1 and 1-0, respectively, but it was probably for the best to test themselves and prep them for the remainder of the season. In both of those games, Walton gave up an opportunity that ultimately punished them. I would believe they have since corrected any mistakes and only got better. They have been on a roll in the playoffs winning by multiple goals against Collins Hill, Denmark and Campbell. This is their FOURTH Final Four in four years, three under the current head coach. They have playoff experience and shown to weather the storm. Towards the end of each game during the playoff, I'm sure that they took out majority of their starters and played their entire bench to look forward to Thursday.
Buford is still undefeated. They only tied one game (Jefferson) and had some challenging matches this season. They have a number of D1 commits and definitely have some quality. I'm confused on how the Milton game was so close. From what I hear about Hillgrove, they can rough up their opponent and I would put money that they did that to Buford. This team has shown that when a mistake happens, they can capitalize on it. But as far as creating their own opportunities in games where it matters, they have not done the best at that aspect on the game. If they took this game to the very end with Hillgrove, it's a possibility that they might have been grinded down especially with a quick turnaround.
I think the recent performance in the playoffs, the potential opportunity to rest players leading into this game, playoff experience, and their opportunity to grow throughout the season from being battletested, I would think Walton has the chance to "upset" Buford and give them their first lost of the season. Buford has the opportunity to create a hostile environment and make it difficult for their opposition. Like I stated earlier, if mistakes are made, Buford can capitalize but that could be said for Walton.
I'm going to go off the edge and say Walton upsets in a very tight game.
North Gwinnett at West Forsyth - Two undefeated teams in a chance to advance to the Championship game. Based off of the schedule, West Forsyth seems like they would be the stronger team of the two. They have a few D1 commits and this looks like they are returning to form since the Dellaperuta sisters have moved on to UNC and now professionally overseas. North Gwinnett seems to have overcome some odds and a controversial call to advance to the Final Four. I would love to know how the coaches are game planning for this one, especially on the North Gwinnett side.
Just based off of recent history and their strength of schedule, I would put my money on West Forsyth.
