So glad this is going to be researched on a deeper level. I know there have been studies dome, but just like CTE in American football, I think they should always be working to find better ways to reduce the harm and impact of serious injuries like these. Because of the prevalence in ACL injuries for women's soccer, I only wish they could have done this sooner. I've seen too many players go down, know the long recovery it takes, and even some players that never fully recover.
"Project ACL, a collaboration between the international players' union FIFpro, England's Professional Footballers' Association, Nike and Leeds Beckett University, will be a 3-year research effort launched with the goal of understanding and reducing ACL injuries in women's soccer."

Absolutely. Always appropriate to fund studies as long as they are not biased. At this point I am almost desperate enough to draw attention to it from the general public that I would take even biased money. We all assume they know because we know, but so many people don’t know and it is not just their athlete’s knees that are at risk…it is all women’s knees.

I know many ACL injuries are contactless, but mine's injury was caused by another player, hit from behind inside the 18...and no foul called. In my mind, officiating is a HUGE part of the problem (biased officiating and poor officiating). The women's game doesn't need to be like the men's game, look at lacrosse. Cautions and sendoffs are a part of their toolkit...which they almost NEVER use.

Well I can appreciate your opinion, but the biggest difference between male and female ACL tear rates is in the non-contact injury. I dislike the lackadaisical ref as much as the next parent but they should call the games the same. And women’s lax should wear helmets. Don’t know about whether they should change the rest of the differences, but they should definitely even that up.
