First time going through the Select tryouts process and wondering if there are any tips or tricks. My daughter will be U13 (2012) and is not currently with a club.

My advice would be:
1. Take advantage of the pretryout camps to get familiar with the coaches, training sessions, and speed of play. 2. TH has lots of teams and thus there will be spot available. 3. If trying out for the top teams, make sure you all state that from the beginning on the first tryout day.
Good luck!

has she been playing soccer in a competitive environment? No, but is "retiring" from competitive gymnastics. She's been around the game her whole life so has a great understanding of it, but obviously will be behind a bit technically. We are totally fine landing on the bottom level so she can get some game experience. I just didn't want to get out there and be completely surprised by something I didn't think of.

Similar question. We are thinking of trying out our girls for Tophat Academy (U7 & U8) next week. We are new to soccer and wondering how competitive it is or do you just need to show up to earn a spot? They like soccer and have been playing recreationally for a couple of years

They like soccer and have been playing recreationally for a couple of years Academy isn’t competitive in the sense of them keeping track of wins/losses. Instead, it focuses on teaching players the skills and tactics they need to eventually play competitively (typically at U13). With that said, Academy teams and players are, generally speaking, far more skilled than their recreational counterparts. Think of it like soccer school for kids who want to improve and grow as a player.

Buckhead? Marietta? Milton? Smyrna? The Buckhead location used to have a limit for Academy. I’m not sure if they still do or not.

They like soccer and have been playing recreationally for a couple of years They’ll be fine at U7/U8 which is pre-academy. It will also give them a leg up when they move up to academy at U9. Tophat Buckhead is pool play with flexible rosters. Top players are placed on the Gold team. Next is Navy followed by White, Blue and Silver depending on the number of players at the location. As in any club, perception and being known by the coaches goes a long way toward team placement and advancement. So, the earlier that they can become known (in a positive way) by the coaches, the better.

We got the playmetrics invite (Buckhead 2017) but havent gotten much more information beyond that. Is there a website that shares info on practice/game schedule, etc? We want to make sure we understand the commitment before registering. I've reached out to a couple folks by email but no luck. I can DM my contact info if easier.

However schedules, practice days/times for the academy are not typically released until later. All team info is shared via Playmetrics to those who have been accepted to the team. When you're daughter is older then league wide schedules will be available on websites and such (still later in the summer). Tophat Buckhead academy used to practice 3 times a week. Again dates and times always varied each year. Games typically dont start until mid august (local tourneys) and then local clubs in sept. I hope this helps, but you should also call the club.

Practices are twice a week from 4:15pm-5:30pm for the youngest groups at the Buckhead location where tryouts were held. Summer training starts next week for interested players with fall practices starting the first week of August. Teams typically have one to two games every weekend beginning in early Sept.
