What happens at sccl tryouts for older ages , is there something you should specifically train on such as specific drills or is it just scrimmages and what are some things the coaches look at the most? Thank you

Thank you Older age groups, say U12/13 and up is pretty much all scrimmages at tryouts. A lot of mixing up of groups at first to assess the skill levels of new kids, then they shift kids around as needed depending on what they’re looking for and who they’re looking at.

I’d add rondo type drills for the first half hour or so for the coaches to figure out who is there and where to put them.

Thank you Depends on the club too. Some clubs will place you in a group based on your prior club experience and then move you up or down as they see a need. Usually the scrimmages are smaller fields initially and then they will go to bigger fields later as the groups are more sorted out.

Clothing. 10 years ago I would have said coaches love red socks, neon shirts, head bands, you know drip. Coaches definitely want players with drip. I had never considered buying old used uniforms with ECNL patches and stuff on them. That would immediately get you on the first field hahaha

This is something I sent a friend whose son is going to his first tryout this week at one of the big 5 ... They may split the keepers from the field players and do 30 min of drills to get a very high level of where everyone falls. From there they will go to scrimmaging. They won't announce it, but the fields will be set up top to bottom. Don't be surprised if your son starts at the far end as they do not know him. Last year my son started on the bottom end and moved up towards the top through the week. I also saw someone's son I know that was new to this club who is a 5'10 rising u12 who moved from the top fields down. They will be moving kids throughout the week.
