Fresh off her FA WSL title win with Chelsea, Emma Hayes dives headfirst into her new role as USWNT head coach. She unveiled her 23-player roster for the June friendlies, sparking intriguing discussions. Some interesting takeaways for me are: - Will Hayes' decision to move Crystal Dunn from defense to forward be a bold tactical shift? - The inclusion of Korbin Albert is intriguing. How will the team receive her? - Congratulations to Sam Staab and Hal Hershfelt on earning their first call-ups!

- I think that Hayes adding Dunn as a forward is so weird. I assume it's because she can play as FWD, MID, or DEF. But I don't see her making a starting lineup over any of the FWDs or MIDs. I could maybe see her having her start over Nighswonger at the Olympics because she is a vet. - I think people will receive Albert okay. I'm sure she's terrified though. Horan and Morgan are huge Rapinoe fans and definitely control the vibe in the locker room. Ultimately they want to win and I don't think they'll exclude her and risk jeopardizing that. She definitely isn't getting any invites to any birthday parties.
- Congrats to them, wish Bethune made the roster too! Our talent pool is just so deep they should let all those deserving go and then rock, paper, scissors, the decision lol!

She's the oddest one included for sure. I mean she's currently injured, so what does she bring to the team? Then again, maybe she's bringing Morgan in for one last hurrah before she retires her from the USWNT lineup. Time will tell...

Our talent pool is just so deep they should let all those deserving go and then rock, paper, scissors, the decision lol! is that a fact? Has anyone explicitly said that? No. But they have gotten pretty close. Morgan has an incredible amount of pull especially with the younger players. Despite what is being said in response to her addition to this roster, players have a ton of respect for her. Several of the newer players on multiple occasions have said that they look to Morgan during big moments and she is key member of the team. I'd be willing to bet that most eyes go to Morgan in situations like these. And who can blame them? She's been around for a long time and since a young age. If I were them I'd be asking her how to handle it too. In my opinion this isn't a bad thing at all and has probably made the transition from the 2019 WC roster to this 2024 Olympic roster much easier. Horan may still have some pull but I think she's still finding her footing as captain. It's hard to assert yourself when the roster is changing so often.

For sure. I’m fine with leaving off Morgan. She hasn’t impressed the last few games I watched. Different story when Swanson, Smith, and Rodman are all on the field. Dunn at forward is a head scratcher.

I still think she should get a chance to play a farewell game...

I still think she should get a chance to play a farewell game... She definitely means a lot to many USWNT fans. 1-2 final games would be a great send-off and good for tv. That said, the USWNT team has looked more dangerous when she isn’t on the field. My only concern leaving her out is whether there will be a significant loss of leadership. Can Horan be THE leader now that Morgan is out?

Morgan is washed. The team needs a fresh start from both a culture and technical perspective. Dunn should have been dropped as well.

Think the post was in reference the 23-person roster.

Her performance, her age or just clearing out the "old-guard?" Do you think her short stint with Chelsea helped influence Emma's view/thoughts on Dunn?

All of the above. I view her as a liability I may not be as up to date on the USWNT, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't she been playing out of the back and out of her natural position for years? Has she been that bad in the back, not showing well and becoming more of a liability? Is she unable to play the position Emma has her slated to play for the Olympics?

You are correct that defense is not her natural position. She (I think) plays midfielder for her club. I’ve always thought she is best as a winger who can use her pace to make overlapping runs and crosses, but she played at the 8 a lot. Not sure where she’ll fit with Swanson, Shaw, Rodman, Smith, and Macario on the roster.
