Can someone suggest the best in choosing Top team in small club vs 5th team in large club. What are the things to consider while making a choice for boys. Top team in a small club means you probably have a better coach than the 5th team at a large club. And probably a mix of very good players and some very average players. If it’s the only team in his age group then you may also have some weak players. 5th team in a large club is pretty difficult to move up from as a player. Even if he’s better than that level, they won’t move him until next year and, even then, he probably only moves up one team if at all. And be prepared for your son to be frustrated on that team because the 5th team will likely have no/few players who are better than your son who can challenge him and make him better. Whereas the team will almost assuredly have several players weaker than him. These are just a few things to consider. It also depends on his age, who the coaches are, the reputations of the clubs, etc.

it depends on the league. We always want to play in higher level of league (SCCL has champ, P1 to P4). if two team play in same league, I'll go with small club.

I’d say top team at a small club unless the coach at the bigger club is better. I’m just assuming your player is young. Give them some time to develop and then make a switch once they’re old enough and if they’re still interested in playing at a high level. If they aren’t looking to play MLS or ECNL then I’ve always preferred smaller clubs. Better atmosphere and less politics! What are the two clubs you’re considering?

Follow the $$$ if your kid eventually wants to play on the top team.
Clubs make more $$$ bringing on new players from outside than bringing up from within. What this means is if there's two equally good players ones from outside the club and the other is from within clubs will almost always choose the outside player.
If your kid is good but getting looked over on megaclubs 4-5th team go to a smaller club for a year. Then after tearing it up at a smaller club contact the megaclubs top team coach and ask for a tryout.
Now your kid is the one that gets picked first if there's two of the same ability one from outside the club and the other from inside.

Can someone suggest the best in choosing Top team in small club vs 5th team in large club. What are the things to consider while making a choice for boys. Definitely depends on the clubs and how you define small. Ambush and Santos aren’t as big as NTH or SSA, but I would absolutely have my son on the 1st team at those smaller clubs than the 5th team at a Big 5. The answer is more complicated if we are talking about an even smaller club. I’ve seen some decent 4th and 5th teams at big clubs that could beat the top team at smaller clubs. If you feel like you will get a good coach and play quality teams at the smaller club, I say stick with it. However, if your son is an Academy player and looking to break into a big club, consider the lower team at the big club.

I think it depends on many things. There are some small clubs I would stay away from. Also look to see what league they are playing in. If they are u13 and up and GA soccer or EA it is a lot more travel than sccl. My son has played for both small clubs and mega clubs. Both have pros and cons.
