Looking for what might be the best clubs I could reach out and talk to about a spot for my U14 son (defender/GK) in the Marietta area, knowing that tryouts were already last week.
He attended tryouts for his club that he's been with for academy and then select this past year, all his teammates were selected for teams by Sunday night, we still haven't heard either way if he's got a spot or not even though his previous coach from this past season was at the tryouts and thought he was selected by a team (reached out to the new coach and the overall head coach for U14, no one will even respond with a yes or no).
While we're keeping hope as he doesn't want to leave this club, we want to see what other options there could be so he can still play at this level and not miss out on a potential new team that needs a player.

Lots of good people on here with lots of good advice, but I think there is a need for more some information. Example: on what level he is looking to play at, what level did he play last year, what club was he at? These would be factors in recommendations that can be made.

Select level is what he's looking for, he was on a team that was in Premier 3 in SCCL this past year and played a decent amount of minutes while starting several games as well.

Around Marietta there are SSA, Georgia Impact, Concorde Fire West - from the top of my head - I would reach out and ask them if they are looking for an additional player.
I am very sorry, that your current Club has done this to you and your son. In a perfect world, coaches should let you know before hand if your kid is being considered for any of the club teams, or not.
As other parents have mentioned, I suggest that following tryout season (starting on every May 1st) ask your coach directly about your kid spot on the club, and specially if he/she cannot give a straight answer then start looking for and attending other clubs camps.
Also look for supplemental training camps (RDS), you always have the opportunity to meet other parents there, and they can be a connection in these scenarios or get you invited to their teams.

Well, in the Marietta area, it is dominated by NASA and SSA, but if you are already looking outside of NASA (where you were), SSA would be a consideration as a larger club. I don't know of any other clubs in Marietta specifically, but if you are willing to drive a little bit, Georgia Impact (also known as Cherokee Impact) in Cherokee County, about 25 min from Marietta. It is a small-to-mid-sized club with great coaches and is good a family-oriented club. It has a lot to offer for those on the level your child recently played and they develop players well. There are also a couple of smaller clubs in Kennesaw and Acworth, but I don't know anything about those to give you any insight.
Edit to add: Yes, as a couple here mentioned, and I totally blanked on was Concorde Fire-West, which is also in the area. Stephen Weiss is the Director of West Program. 470-226-4522. Really good guy. They also tie into the larger club, so other opportunities to move around and find playing time at multiple levels.

Check out Concorde Fire Cobb. They practice/play at Campbell Middle School in Smyrna. Some high level teams (ECRL and ECNL) as well as various SCCL levels. Great coaching and a small club branch atmosphere even despite the big club affiliation. Director - Joey Syfert, cjsyfert@gmail.com

Thanks for all the advice everyone!! A few updates, we finally got the official word last night from NASA he didn't make it (just a form email, even though we contacted several coaches and admins and no reply). His former coach isn't happy about the situation either, he thinks my son had a spot after tryouts, but then maybe a few players were sent down from ECNL, and if just one goalie was that trickle down effect cost him a spot by the time they started calling everyone.
Coincidentally enough, our neighbor's son plays for Concorde and gave my wife Stephen Weiss's number already, and we now have a tryout for my son for Concorde this week, so hopefully this ends up working out for him. Location wise it would work out perfectly for Concorde West as well.

Well he ended up not getting on at Concorde West though he admitted it was hard to gauge him in just a 30-minute tryout. Back to square one, we might just have to try again next spring to get him with a team that's not too far away for practice and home games.

What is your son's goals with soccer. I would encourage you to look into summer indoor as a possibility. He will stay sharper and a coach or DOC may notice him. If travel is not a factor, there may be other clubs. Look for clubs that hosted supplemental tryouts which may indicate they have openings still. Agan, good luck!

Don’t forget to consider playing for an equal or lower level team that is one year older. Your age group might be full but one year older may have open spots.

Honestly not sure the reasoning, he tried out as both a defender and goalkeeper (his first choice), feedback was he was as good as the current gk the coach had, same level, day of the tryout he said he most likely would be able to split time. Then next day said he didn't think he was at the level that would get enough playing and practice time to help his development. Though I feel he would develop more then having to settle for playing in rec. Right now our best option that's been recommended, without having to drive to a practice 45 minutes away, is having him do rec (NASA) and then goalkeeper training (with his coach from this previous season) on the side. With having several kids in the family doing sports in the fall, distance of practice is a huge factor, especially after this past season when we had a carpool take him 2 out of 3 nights.

I know you said drive time was an issue but did you check with the DoC to see if any of the other NASA branches might need some help? A willing GK might have a spot at that level.

That Concorde ECNL Premier 2009 team is now 1-10-2. This begs the question - did Concorde purposely create a bad 09 team so that they would guarantee that their other team (Platinum) makes Nationals? Look at the records. Without Platinum's 2 blowouts against Premier (6-0 and 4-0) it's doubtful they make nationals. This is something that ECNL headquarters should be looking closely at. I really hope someone tips them off to the potential gaming being done by Concorde Fire (if they haven't been tipped off already). If I were an ECNL team on the bubble bumped off of Nationals by CF Platinum, I would not be happy and would seriously question the integrity of the league. Syfert may have some 'splaining to do to the higher ups... First of all, I have no dog in this fight. My son doesn't play for Concorde, and I do not know this coach at all. However, it is clear that you clearly have a problem with both this club and this coach. That is fine as every club and every coach will not be everyone's cup of tea. There may be issues with this coach I don't know. If you have problems with a club or coach outline what your issues are. Don't just throw out wild conspiracy theories. A few things to think about: 1) Platinum should always beat premier. It's a first team playing a second team. 2) If they put together a bad team on purpose every other team in the league would benefit from that by beating them as well. It is a wash. If anything, it would help other teams on the cusp of qualifying qualify as it is one less team they have to beat out. Platinum should always finish above Premier. 3) It may be that Concorde has a lack of depth at this age group. Looking at last year's standings this team struggled last year. They finished 5th out of 6 teams with only 4 wins. It makes sense that if there were struggles some of the top players from that team could have left to find greener pastures.
