New to youth club soccer so please forgive my ignorance. Obviously clubs are incentivized to field as many teams as possible because $$$. At the same time, I would expect that clubs want to field the best teams possible to maintain a "winning" reputation. I am curious if anyone has an idea on how many youth athletes end up not making a team. Specifically at older ages, u13 and up.

The big clubs certainly want to have competitive teams at the highest levels for recruitment purposes. But, there are so many competitive levels of play there is always a spot for a player somewhere. The real issue is finding the right spot for your child (good coach and good team regardless of level, imo).

IMO, really depends on how many kids come out and how competitive the club is at that particular age group at the time. On the Southside, it’s a rare to see a kid not make “a team”. It may not be “the team”, but they will get rostered and your money will be accepted. Each season I see plenty of supplemental tryouts. I see less of them at the older ages and more of them at the younger ages. IMO, supplemental tryouts is a good way of seeing that they either don’t have enough kids or that they don’t have enough of the top kids they’re looking for.

A lot of clubs that have players not making a team at their club in the older age groups will help you find another place that does need players. For example they might recommend a lesser known club in your area.

Anyone know of clubs around the Eastside of Atlanta that are looking for Academy players? Son had a good tryout at Inter but was waitlisted. I’m looking at other clubs around the area for info on supplemental tryouts but not having much luck. Kid is a good player who was on the first team at a smaller Academy last season. He would be competitive on a mid-level team at a bigger club.

My daughters played there when they were little and it was their best soccer experience to date. Of course we were there in their prime so some things are bound to have changed, but Kathy Frisbey is great, so I’d start with her. They play in the Georgia Soccer’s academy program and then older boys play in SCCL. www.ddysoccer.org/

His team had some good players but also had some who probably need to “pursue other interests”. There were several games against bigger clubs where the starting team was competitive until the lineup changed. It was… frustrating for my son. It is an option for us; however, I am hoping teams at Rush, GSA, etc. are looking for players.

Check out their webpage or Instagram account.

I have no firsthand knowledge of the quality of their team, but I think they’re a step up from DDY and probably on par with Inter at the academy level.

Take a look at GSA East in conyers. They’re rebuilding at the old RYSA facilities after the Dutch Lion fiasco. New owners, new leadership. They have supplementals coming up (or are already occurring).
