I would be curious to hear a club director’s view on the current tryout methodology.
I can’t imagine how you would even know how many coaches to hire. Is a coach hire conditional?
Are teams set before tryouts? Do coaches actually stand together and chat wile “watching” players during evaluations? Are they taking notes or “scoring” players somehow. Do clubs only care about the top team, etc?

From my limited, although over a long time experience, DOC’s are often the worst offenders of tryout atrocities - especially at smaller clubs. And in the situations when they themselves are not the bad actor coaches, they tend to ignore or pretend that they are not aware of them and promise to “investigate “. In all of my years connected to select soccer, here and elsewhere, I’ve never had a satisfactory outcome when bringing a situation to the attention of a DOC. I hope that I am in the minority here, but I’m not holding my breath.

I don’t get that. DOC rarely help or do the right thing for players unless you are a star.

I don’t get that. DOC rarely help or do the right thing for players unless you are a star. Please don't get me started on the "club hoppers" phenomenon. Back when my kids were playing, I valued loyalty to a single club, just as people once stayed loyal to one company for their entire careers. Nowadays, the landscape has changed dramatically. Coaches switch clubs every few years, and Directors of Coaching (DOCs) constantly scout for the next best talent from different clubs, leaving no guarantee of a spot on your current team. In this environment, I believe it's essential to follow good coaches and seek out quality coaching and training, even if it means changing clubs annually...
