Congratulations to Tophat U13 team (coached by Ted) on winning the GA National championship.
Also U14, U15, and U16 all advance to final 4 in a couple of weeks.
Way to represent the quality soccer that is played in Georgia!!!

Yes, congrats to top hat 2011s for winning this tournament. But, let's be honest; it's gal. 2011 Top hat winning a regional Concorde tournament (vs 2nd tier 2011 ECNL teams) is more impressive than a gal national championship. To put it into perspective , multiple top teams from 2011s didn't even make it out of group play in the ECNL playoffs including solar, fc dallas Ufa, Michigan hawks to name a few.

I wasnt attempting to stir the pot with passing along how well the teams were doing. Some of us actually celebrate when teams from the Southeast do well. We know ECNL is considered the best league. No questions about that. However, winning a championship is hard no matter where you play. However, there is loads of talent at TH and they are continueing to develop more. Do you know who believes in the talent there? The college coaches. TH players know they will be seen and recruited. It happened with the 2024s, 25s, and is happening now with the 26s. Its a shame the teams dont play each other... Even when TH attempts to go to CESA friendlies the Georgia teams refuse to play. Why? Oh and the 2011s, they all played each other at the Con Fire Tournament in Feb. I believe TH 2011s held their own. |

TH is the club that drives the ECNL cultists crazy the most. They try to put down TH and GAL whenever possible because they know that TH is the biggest threat to girls ECNL.
TH has GAL leadership behind them 100% helping to push their players up, be it college recruiting or USYNT. ECNL does the same for its top teams the problem for ECNL is there's an entire group of ECNL clubs that could switch from ECNL to GAL and likely do much better in GAL. This in theory would mean more visibility to recruiters. This btw is why girls ECNL parents always want to talk about numbers of recruiters at ECNL vs GAL events.
It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall when ECNL and TH leadership speak. Does ECNL offer TH the world? Or does ECNL make TH feel like they're doing TH a favor speaking with them?
The one thing I can tell is that TH would likely do very well in whatever league the play in.

ECNL should have given TH 2 teams at that time. The previous year Tophat’s second team was in ECNL just like Concorde’s. TH’s second teams were better than Concorde’s second teams back then and for at least the next couple of years. ECNL was being stubborn due to some bad blood and now they keep holding out on one of the best clubs in the country. It is all politics. It is not about the players. It should be about the players. If it was about the players ECNL would have accepted TH when DA folded and gave them two teams no questions asked. |

If you feel ECNL has a higher level of competition than GA there's multiple clubs that are coming close to winning in their league and attending playoffs. These type of teams should be able to make playoffs in GAL.
To address this situation and keep good but not great clubs engaged both ECNL and GAL invite these type of clubs to showcases that occur at the same time and location as events like playoffs.
At the end of the day clubs that are close to making it to playoffs have to make a decision. Is attending ECNL showcases and potentially making it to playoffs better for their club and players than switching over to GAL and making it to playoffs every year.

So…I know nothing but try and pay attention to local politics as I think it’s always important. I come to this with academy age boys so little dog in the fight but I’ve lived in Atlanta for a long time and those Tophat stickers on the back of cars have been a thing for over 30 years it seems and I don’t see that changing no matter which of the leagues they play in. They get a lot of girls at U-early and do a good enough job developing them to stay competitive and pretty much guarantee top girls good visibility to colleges. Would TH girls benefit by playing ECNL, probably. Would TH as an organization benefit from moving to ECNL, not without concessions.
ECNL could have played hardball with NASA boys and both sides chose the middle ground which seems interesting but I would be very interested in the input of those with real history.
