Lets just say each team takes 18 players. So 450 total players. Let's round up to 500 since some teams roster more than 18. Let's cost is $5k per player. Total cost for players $2,500,000. Double or more for parents/players, coaches per diem. So Atlanta soccer families paid out probably between 5-7 million dollars to attend this tournament. This entire tournament, generates a total of 3 posts on our message board? So if a boy ECNL player starts going at U13. That is six years, mom and dad or going, maybe siblings. Let's just say $10k per year, they are spending $60,000 dollars to get exposure for college recruiting? Did I get that right? For 9.7 scholarships on a roster of 27 that something like 70% of kids quit after their freshman year? Did I get the math right?

Pretty close... it's an enormous scam and harder to leave than to get in.

Kid went to qualifying in Chicago area and flew to Denver for Nationals where they played in the National Finals. We NEVER paid $5000 for him to attend that tournament which included room, food and flight. We attended tournament in Chicago as well.

Kid went to qualifying in Chicago area and flew to Denver for Nationals where they played in the National Finals. We NEVER paid $5000 for him to attend that tournament which included room, food and flight. We attended tournament in Chicago as well. I know this year the qualifying was in San Diego and the Nations I believe are in Virginia. But you don't know you're going to Virginia till you make it out of the brackets in San Diego. Is that what you mean by qualifying in Chicago and then on to Denver for Nationals? Did you pre-book and buy your nationals tickets? Is your kid an ECNL player? Are they in their final year or earlier? Also, I am honestly curious how much you spent to go to Chicago and then on to Denver for Nationals? - Flight (# of flyers) - Hotel costs/nite - Approx. grub - Swag - Transportation - Misc... TIA

TIA We drove to Chicago and stayed ($600) plus meals ($400). Team qualified there. Our team manager was able to get round trip flights for the kids for under $400. Their rooms were around $200 (4 in a room) each plus food $200ish as their hotel had complementary breakfast. We did not go to Denver as we had work. In total, the Trip was around $2500 for everything. We drove up a few days early as we have family near Chicago and did some vacation stuff so that portion of the trip served 2 purposes.
