MLS gonna MLS. I see this as an effort to shore up pro council voting rights at the federation, to keep their monopoly and harm all others.

Honestly surprised at the timing of Anson's departure but with the mass exodus of players last year from the UNC team and the bad press it brought it's not really completely out of the blue.

Great coach, but this is the worst possible timing for the current players. The college game has changed and he didn’t want to or couldn’t adapt. I know a couple of players on the team and it wasn’t healthy. He was used to be the coach and king without players having the power to move on.
He has earned a great retirement. I just feel bad doe the current players. PLUS they won’t be able to recruit for next year as the new coach will be unknown.

21 players transferred or turned pro after the season His assistant left before their 2nd round NCAA Tournament game due to allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a current player My understanding is that this had a serious impact on player attrition

previous articles made it seem like a horrible environment for sure. Wonder if he walks away if they would have won in 2022 against UCLA.
Its good to see other teams winning titles and more importantly recruiting top talent - their run from 1982-2000 is absolutely absurd.

scarvesandspikes.com/ has pulled the mls womens league story, stating that at the end of the day they couldn't verify it with all their sources and their "young" writer might have been given misinformation on the lead...... usually where there is smoke there is fire

MLS doesn't really care about NWSL but they do see that NWSL is making $$$ and implementing a women's version of MLS is easily implementatable. NWSL should consider this a shot across the bow. To address they need to create youth Acadamies and some version of MLS Next. Relying on colleges to develop players is not a long term solution and leaves NWSL open to any league setting up a womens youth to pro pipeline. NWSL biggest value right now are the clubs with their own stadiums. This is NWSLs invisible force field to blocking out other league competition.

Honestly surprised at the timing of Anson's departure but with the mass exodus of players last year from the UNC team and the bad press it brought it's not really completely out of the blue. A lot of old school coaches from many college sports are on the way out. The combination of NIL, transfer portal, and new NCAA rules have created a very different environment than just a few years ago. For most players, it's no longer 'what can you do for my career' but 'what can you do for me now.' Sometimes they're the same, others not. See Nick Saban's exit interviews as an example. Every D1 college football player is now paid to play, openly, and sometimes exorbitantly. They will seek to renegotiate each season and threaten to use the portal to find a better deal. I'm all for compensating revenue generating college athletes, but the current system needs more guidelines.
