Is anyone honestly really concerned about duplicate jersey numbers in youth soccer? Just let the kids play. Oh I agree and that was my point. Obviously some folks in this post think it is important though!

I agree SCCL means as much to SCCL players as ECNL does to ECNL players and MLS means to ATL United Academy players and so on and so forth. I disagree that players "know" who plays for which team. They may think they know, but that doesn't mean they are always correct. Players get demoted, are dual-rostered, etc. Sometimes they are asked to guest play due to injuries or other reasons that aren't nefarious. Could be those were the teams who didn't have a conflict so those players were available to guest. As far as what is learned when you play against a team consisting of a couple of players who may be "above" your level? I'd say you learn that sometimes you have to challenge yourself, you can't control what other teams do, you might just find out you have more ability than you thought you had.

My kid's SCCL team brings in some supplemental players at times. In our case it's for 2 main reasons.
1. We don't have enough kids to field a U13 team so we are on a mixed U14 team (quite a few 11 and 12 year olds on the team). 2. Even with the U14 team, we still don't have enough subs some weeks when all kids can't make it to the game (like holiday weekends).
Even with 3 supplemental kids, the games are still competitive. We've lost games and won games but none of them are blowouts. There have been a couple of games we played where opposing parents have lost their shizat about 1 matching jersey number. In my opinion it's purely about winning. Opposing parents never make any comments about fairness when their teams tower over our's, easily body our kids off the ball and put them on the ground, etc.

Pulling a couple of at age ECNL kids down 2-3 teams instead of pulling from lower teams is cheating.

I know for sure they're not ECNL (or like) players.

My kid's ECNL-R team played one team last year where the dad manager TWICE accused us of using ECNL guest players. He specifically pointed out players who he hadn't seen before that had same uniform numbers. They were SCCL players playing UP. Parents and kids from the opposing team are not always reliable sources of information in such matters.

Haha which is hilarious because ECNL players can always play on ECNLRL teams as long as they’re still only playing one game a day / their team is off.
