So I just got this message from the NTH assignor in my email. I need the juicy details here. Who knows what game this actually happened in. This is hilarious, and its sad the assignor even had to send this. All referees should know this is not allowed! ---------------------------- Respected Referees. Rumors on the street are going around that at one of our neighboring Metro Atlanta clubs, a referee crew allowed a parent to show them a video, and then revered their call resulting with a RED CARD and awarding a PK.... HOPEFULLY OBVIOUSLY- We all know that WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LOOK AT VIDEOS !!! If a parent, team manager or coach requests you to look at a video, simply say NO. The information they are attempting to show is 100% irrelevant. Video catches things from a different angle than what we and our A/Rs can see. Video may NOT be used in making any game time decisions. Don't even look at it as nothing good can come from you observing it. -------------------------------

Seen other parents try and show refs video during a game but never seen a ref actually take them up on it. That’s awful…and funny.

While it was a terrible idea to look at the video, did it result in the correct call?

This doesn’t surprise me. I’ve never seen anyone use video, but I have seen opposing parents approach a ref after a tournament game to change the score from a 1-point loss to a tie. The parents were unfortunately successful.

While it was a terrible idea to look at the video, did it result in the correct call? I don't know the details which is why I was asking to see if someone knew what game this rumor came from. That being said it doesn't freaking matter. This is not MLS or Premier League where there are 10 cameras with 10 different angles on the play in question. There is a Vemo or a parent's phone camera at one particular angle that may or may not give a good representation of the play in question. With the absence of real VAR in a professional or college game, the eyes and ears of the Center Referee and ARs are the only thing that matter.

The parents were unfortunately successful. That is absolutely horrible, and if I was a coach of the other team I would have taken that up with the Tournament Director and Venue Manager and also the Assignor of the tournament. That is never ok. I have had someone be a smartass a few times and tell me they got it on camera (something they thought I or an AR was wrong on), and I just usually ignore it, or if I'm in a trolling type of mood I might make a smartass comment back about the supposed video.

Not only is it horrible, part of me is wondering if they misunderstood how DOGSO is penalized/enforced in the 18. If it was DOGSO it should have been a PK with a yellow card. I can't think of anything else so bad that went from a no call to a red card.

That is wild. Also if a coach tries to show you video in the game it is a cardable offense
