no, hes definitely not going to be happy.....
"The difference in value now is related to the recent performances of the two strikers -- Defoe has shown he can still be a trusted goal-scoring asset, while Altidore has not.
Altidore, 25, remains the first-choice striker for the United States national team despite a brutal time at Sunderland that saw him score only one Premier League goal in a year and a half at the Stadium of Light.
Meanwhile, Defoe scored 11 goals in 19 games in his sole season in MLS"

I read that Toronto was the only team to meet his five million a year salary demands, not trying to be cynical but I don't think he's worth that much, at least based on past performance.

agree, 5 million....
but the MLS needs players like jozy, not because of his skill, but because the average schmo like me knows who he is. i'll admit, its hard for me to watch the average mls game when i don't know the players, its similar to games in the bottom of the premier league, i just don't know the players like my kids do. my boys are obsessed with fifa, so they know every freaking player in the world, its crazy.
moral of the story - buy your kids fifa, and bring all americans back to play in the MLS!

I read that Toronto was the only team to meet his five million a year salary demands, not trying to be cynical but I don't think he's worth that much, at least based on past performance. He would have been worth that much (more) if he would have moved directly from the Eridivisie to MLS. Jurgen probably ruined Altidore's career by pushing him to leave AZ Alkmaar and go to a horrid Premier League team coached by a mad man. And the new coach is a real gem as well. Have you watched that side play? But still, the first choice striker at Sunderland (the lumbering oaf of a footballer named Connor Wickham) has, what, 2 goals in the BPL this season? If Altidore can't beat out that guy in training then he must really suck. But I think there is probably more to it than just being a better footballer than Wickham, and I think it is probably better that Altidore gets out of that terrible situation by any means necessary. Congratulations to him for finding a solution. He will get to play a lot, and hopefully regain his confidence.

Can't fault Jozy one bit for the move. Playing time is paramount for him right now. I can't imagine any professional passing up an increased role and a substantial raise. Regarding his salary, MLS will always overpay for USMNT players (just as PL teams overpay for England players) because they get the money back in increased ticket and merchandise sales. I'm actually really looking forward to this MLS season. These recent signings will improve a league that honestly already has good players. Consider that at the WC, it was arguably the MLS-based players who performed best.

I go back and forth on Jozy. He has struggled mightly at Sunderland but in his defense so is everyone that plays there. However, it does say alot that he isn't even playing right now. Before he was coming off the bench and he even started a couple of games this season. But then the awful miss happened. Oh boy, what a miss too. After that he's been solidly on the bench. I know that Sunderland has some real problems with not just their talent but with their strategy and it's hard for a forward to get a chance when you play so many people back but he's lost total confidence. Going to the MLS is probably his best move. He'll do good here and regain the confidence that he is desperately lacking. If he still struggles then we'll know the answer but I really don't think he will. MLS is getting better but it's no Premier League and he should get some real good chances via Michael Bradley.
