this is potentially a controversial topic...
should DOCs coach a team or teams?
i've heard many mixed opinions on this topic - no they shouldn't to absolutely they should, they are coaches and are great at it.
whats your thoughts??
in my opinion is obviously very DOC dependent, but the thing i like is when a DOC coaches a team or teams, they get to know the players, especially when its a youth team.

I think it's s good idea for the doc to coach a team or two, no more. Typicall, the doc will coach the top team in an age group. Although, I feel coaching top older teams would be important in helping the doc evaluate his younger teams and coaches in the spring, while his players are competing in high school. My .02 cents.

Depends on the size of the club really. I know our DOC coaches one team and works with another. Typically for most clubs yes they should have at least one time, or be training multiple (3-4) teams. The key is make sure they are out there with other coaches because in my eyes a DOC is there to coach coaches. So the more teams they can touch the better the club is with following the DOC's plan.

I prefer a DOC who gets to see all the coaches and teams, in training and in games. Without a finger on the pulse of the club, all you can do is rely on opinions of others.

Like rifle, I think the DOC should spend as much time as possible in training and games (scrimmage, regular season, and tournament) watching and training their coaches. If they have a team or teams, it's too easy to claim they are too busy with that to spend time supervising.
Lots of coaches out there could be much better with some supervision -- especially the younger ones. If possible there should also be some fairly anonymous observation... slip into the area quietly while multiple games are going on and listen to the coach to see how they handle both good and bad games.
