I know this isn't soccer related, but I couldn't resist. Deflate-gate, what do you think?
I don't like to hear that any team has cheated. Is this common in football? Did Brady and/or Bilichick know? What now? I'm just curious about what people think about all of this. Sad thing is, I don't think the Patriots needed to deflate the balls to win on Sunday.

Brady was telling the truth he didn't do anything to the footballs....he had an equipment manager do it for him

It didn't make a difference. They still crushed them in the 2nd half.
I think it's just the colts making excuses.
That being said - if the footballs are such a big deal the refs should control the game balls and the air pressure. They touch the balls I don't get how they, the refs didn't notice the balls had less air.
While easier to catch and maybe throw - u would think it would be harder to throw with accuracy.

The Colts were going to get beat regardless, however there is an advantage to an under inflated football, NFL live on ESPN did a demonstration today, a QB with a smaller hand (like Tom Brady) can dig into the ball better when it's under inflated, making it easier to throw in adverse conditions, same with a running back, they can tuck it better and dig into the ball making it harder to dislodge.

that's what I don't get. - how do the refs not provide the gameballs then. I'm sure it's extremely common.
Didn't think about holding the ball for RBs, would be harder to strip for sure.

But then the Colts had the same advantage, no?

They used there own balls that must have been fully inflated.

Good grief! How many balls do they use in a game? That seems super sneaky! I don't believe for one minute that they wouldn't know. Just another reason to hate the Patriots in our household;)

Now that I've watched the Espn clip I wonder what the score would have been had the Patriots not had an under-inflated ball. The patriots probably still would have won, but would it have been a blow-out? I'll also add that it seems doubtful Brady didn't know and wasn't a part of deflating the balls. I like Brady, but I don't think he's telling the truth. Like Aikman said, no one would deflate a ball without a QB's knowledge.

My theory he deflates the balls to an exceptable minimal standard. - cold weather did the rest
Would be interesting if they have a pre and post measument for the colts balls also.

Don't think the Cold weather theory holds up, the Colts balls were measured after the game and experienced no loss and were within the threshold. As meticulous as QB's are about their footballs I just can't believe Tom Brady, he's denying that he didn't feel a difference, he could simply say I like them on the bottom end of the threshold and that would be acceptable but he flat out said he couldn't tell. All the QB's and analysts I've seen today say that's impossible.

And they are kicking not gripping them. I agree. No way he missed this.

The interesting thing with all of this - before every play, at least one of the officials has to handle the ball. If the ball was noticeably deflated, would the officials not have noticed it when they handled it?

If the ball was noticeably deflated, would the officials not have noticed it when they handled it? Considering the weather, did the officials wear gloves? When watching the ESPN clip it was clear to the former players who handled the deflated ball that it was deflated. But, they gripped it as a quarterback would. So, maybe they just didn't notice. If they did or should have, it's an even bigger issue/scandal.

According to a friend of mine who is a HS American Football official - they are supposed to notice it.

I thought the same as zizou when I first heard this. My kid can tell immediately when the ball is under inflated. And she is using her feet, she is 13, and she is NOT a professional;)

I watched and read several things, but didn't realize that the balls were replaced late in the first half. The Patriots scored most of their points in the second half. So, it wasn't likely a factor in their win. The whole thing is just strange.
