ATLANTA -- Over 10,000 people cast votes, and hundreds of names were selected. Now, Atlanta's largest soccer club has narrowed down name possibilities for the city's new soccer team to five.
Chief Marketing Officer of Terminus Legion, JR Francis, the voting isn't binding, and "in no way do we feel entitled to demand any name". But he said the club has been meeting with Darren Eales (president of the Atlanta soccer team) and the Atlanta MLS front office.
"He loves that we have gotten so many people interested in it," Francis said.
When the leadership at Terminus Legion calculated the results of the voting, they found five names that stood at as drawing the most support:
1. Black Harts 2. Empire 3. Firebirds 4. Resurgents 5. Terminus
Final voting will be active for about a week. The results will be handed over to the Atlanta MLS team. Francis said the voting process has proven opinions on the team name are all over the place: "We've found that it will be unlikely for the team to possibly make a majority of people happy, so we will re-establish that we will be fans and in the stands wearing the colors, no matter the name."

Honestly I don't like any of those names, as a member of the founders club I took the survey and thought there were better choices.
Empire? Do they plan to play Darth Vaders Imperial March theme for warm ups? FireBird? We already have one club in Atlanta (err two) that have essentially ripped off the trans am firebird logo- no thanks Black Harts?- band of pirates? Resurgents?- makes me think of insurgents Terminus- neutral
How about something that actually has a historic link to the state/city?

How about something that actually has a historic link to the state/city? Strongly agree. What are people thinking?

Couldn't they come up with a "bird" name indigenous to Georgia, eg. hawk, falcon, etc...? Although I am slightly relieved that Peach was left out of the mix.

I am not extremely fond of the names either, but if I have to choose I am going w/ Resurgents, just like the way it sounds better.

Don't like any of these. Georgia Soccer had a survey up last week with some decent names. I also did the Founders' survey, but that was more about name concepts than the actual name itself.

Terminus is pretty historical...
Founded as Terminus in 1837, the town served as the end of the Georgia railroad line (Western and Atlantic Railroad) and later became incorporated as Marthasville in 1843 in honor of ex-governor Lumpkin's daughter Martha. It was renamed Atlanta in 1845 and incorporated as a city in 1847. The name was suggested by the railroad's chief engineer, J. Edgar Thomson, and was derived from its location at the end of the Georgia and Atlantic railroad line. The city became the capital of Georgia in 1868.

I like Terminus. It's the only one that has historical relevance. I'd like Phoenix too except that it sounds like two cities together. How bout the Atlanta Hurt? Historical name in Atlanta history. The Hurt house served as General Sherman's headquarters during the Battle of Atlanta during the Civil War. The Atlanta Rails shows our history as a main railroad hub. The Atlanta Crackers was our original baseball club before the Braves came in the 60's. They are are oldest franchise and were part of our city for 64 years. Actually that team's roots go all the way up to the current AAA Atlanta Braves team that plays in Gwinnett. While the name can be considered a "racial" term, it's actually used to described a great strike in European football terms.

Terminus reminds me too much of the walking dead.

Are these really the top 5 to choose from to make the MLS Atlanta final team name? If that's the case, I'd rather have a basic team name such as Atlanta FC/SC or FC ATL.
