yea, safe to say the fix was in for that one......love the whif at the end. would have been classic if he was called for offside. looked like he was actually, the refs might have been on it also......

Would it be offside since it didn't come from an offensive player, but rather than from a defensive player? I watched the clip again, and it looks to me that the only players that touched the ball prior to the goal scorer was a players from the other team. Does anyone know the rule? Now I am just curious as to whether he should have been called offside. Because if that isn't the rule he was offside by a several feet.

I think you are right, he might have whiffed it, but I can't tell for sure. It probably should have been offside. That was some sorry looking soccer.

I dod think the player was offside. He did gain an advantage. But, does it matter whether if the defender touched or deflected the ball? Believe me, when offside gets more complicated, that's when I don't completely understand it.
For the sake of discussion, let's say the defender touched or deflected the ball. But, the goal scorer was offside when the play began. As I tried to look up the rule, it did say something about being offside when the play began despite a deflection by a defender. So, maybe it doesn't matter whether it was a deflection or a whiff.
This is why I'm not a ref. Even if I knew the rule I'm not sure I would be able to see what actually happened without being able to replay it several times. It's also why I don't yell offside at the ref throughout the game. I know, that I don't have the angle to see what happened, probably wasn't playing close enough attention to know where the players were when the ball was released, or don't fully understand every aspect of the rule. It drives me crazy hearing parents yell offside all of the time. No doubt they are sometimes right, but other times they really have no clue.

You can't tell from the video whether the players were in an offside position or not. When the player from the black team passed the ball (3:14) you cannot see the other black team players nor the other blue team players to tell whether the black team players were offside at that moment. The touch (or non-touch) from the blue player is irrelevant in this case, as was the position of all the players when it happened.

And the other two angles on replay are no help. Neither shows the positions of the players clearly at the time the black team player passed the ball forward (on the volley).

it looks like the goal scorer is the last man when the ball is played forward. maybe there is a defender off the screen to the left. either way, the natural reaction by any player would be to raise there arm in protest for offside......
they did nothing..
