Sounds like some of the players showed up out of shape, assuming they'd work their way into shape in camp. He expects more, if the team is to compete internationally.
I think despite criticism (from Germany and elsewhere) that he isn't a good "game" coach, JK understands what's necessary to raise the level of the game. And he is being fought all the way by the status quo.

Skill and tactical awareness yes, not fitness. If JKs team isn't fit maybe it has something to do with the culture JK has created. Maybe JK is at fault. Maybe JK should start taking responsibility for some things. Maybe if he made it clear you had to be the best of the best to get an invite to camp then maybe players would take it seriously. But hey, JK you tool, keep inviting the Great Bobby Wood to camp!

I think despite criticism (from Germany and elsewhere) that he isn't a good "game" coach, JK understands what's necessary to raise the level of the game. And he is being fought all the way by the status quo. In the past, the US MNT has been known for their fitness. As the coach of the team, it's his responsibility to insure that these players are clear that camp isn't the place to get fit. He creates the culture of the team. It seems to me that fitness is the one thing Klinsmann has control over. He should demand it instead of looking to the MLS to create it. The two coaches before found a way to insure the team was as fit as possible and won games as a result. He's had the team for almost four years. At what point are the losses a reflection of his coaching and not the shortcomings of the players and the MLS? History will judge Klinsmann's success with the MNT or lack thereof. Either he is a master chess player who will find a way to elevate the game to the next level, or he will leave with the team either stagnating or taking a step back. I don't know what that will be, but nothing irritates me more than a coach not looking to their own responsibility in a team's performance.

He is obviously taking a calculated risk. Doing it through the media may backfire.
JK is trying to force culture change and the culture is resisting. Attacking the messenger is easier than acknowledging that US soccer (including MLS) needs serious structural changes, to compete with the world's best. His concerns regarding MLS are clear and valid. It's a shame that everyone suggests he just shut up and improve the team.. When he is fighting for the changes necessary to do it.
Imagine if Bielsa was hired. He would last about a week, because everyone would be offended.

He should just call out the player(s) who showed up to camp in off season form, instead of being vague.
/4-0 Athletic Madrid. Dismantling RM today.

He should just call out the player(s) who showed up to camp in off season form, instead of being vague. /4-0 Athletic Madrid. Dismantling RM today. Was it much of the team or just a few of them? Does the formation, those called up, positions of players impact the results? Or, is it simply fitness? I saw more issues than fitness in that last game. Right now I'm not feeling all that optimistic about the MNT or the WNT. But, I'm no expert. I just have this feeling that we aren't gaining ground on either team.

Irony?
(especially in light of USSF curriculum stated goals to run less). Going to look for that link to explain myself.
Edit: cannot locate source, it seems to only exist in my head. What I remember is Reyna shadowed Euro and S. American academies.. And I was surprised that aside from technical and tactical, he noted the importance of rest (walking in the game) when opportunity arises to preserve energy. Seemed an odd inclusion. But Pep's comment brought it back.

No other coach on the planet would have that clown at camp.

Not good for RM. Isn't Ronaldo back? he's back...but not sure what happened. James didn't play Ronaldo and RM will get back on track. They've had a rough couple of weeks, but a month ago there was talk of Messi transferring to Chelsea because he was so unhappy. Now, you'd never know that there was an issue.

Barcelona did great this weekend!! They did. Messi, Suarez and Neymar are clicking. I watched part of the MNT game and then most of the Barcelona game. Both Spanish teams had such control on the ball. It drops to their feet, their passes have just the right pace and accuracy, they can head or pass the ball with one touch and it ends up exactly where they want it to go. Their skills amaze me.
