assume for sure : ashlyn harris
sauerbrunn
lloyd holiday
press and morgan
leaves 5 spots up for grabs. i'd go with krieger, dunn and ohara in the back
add o'reilly to midfield with press and add aby up top.
done US 2 England 0
i'm sure aby has a big say in her coming off the bench vs starting, but to me, you start her, and if you need to bring in fresh legs for her in the 2nd you do. aby off the bench is not a spark, shes not that kind of player. i get all the naysayers about her at this point of her career, but to me she changes the game when she is in the penalty area and makes it so much easier for everyone else.

They play route 1 soccer with Wambach on the field. They become less flexible than they are already. At this point I am done with the route 1 and only the route 1 approach. I am tired of our National Teams looking like old time English football (exaggeration for effect). The cross into the box is such an ineffective strategy for scoring goals. This has been well documented in the men's professional game. It is as bad as hoping for a goal from a corner kick. Would be surprised if these statistics are shockingly different in the women's game. I am also done with Cheney/Holiday floating around out there like she could care less. Put someone out there that will work. She is a major major liability right now in the center of the formation. O'Reilly has not scored a goal that has mattered since 2011 in the Algarve Cup Final against Iceland! And she is 30. Along with most of the rest of them. Don't we have new and exciting players anywhere? Yes Krieger, Dunn (if healthy), and O'Hara should be playing. So should ARod. Put Lloyd in the middle where she can create havoc.

Put Lloyd in the middle where she can create havoc. i remember holiday when she was rookie on the team stood up to leadership and basically demanded more playing time. i think she has to be in an attacking role, and should never be relied on for defense i still think o'reilly give ya good options up and down the side. trust me, i love heath, but in my opinion she doesn't seem to play at the level she is capable of. i'm a big arod fan. she is a smart player, doesn't play selfishly and gives her all. i here ya about wambach, but i still think she offers more than that. granted these past few games she has not. I still think she has this summer left in her and will contribute. for some reason though, this team just has not embraced a quality style of play which involves short passes, everything with or without aby on the field is big balls. big swtiches etc. i've joked before, get one of soccerfan30 tophat coaches to coach this team to learn how to play real soccer!!!

Holiday does not play hard. Would like to see a GPS tracker on her and get info on distance covered and the number of bouts at top top speed. I am betting those data would be very embarrassing for her. But she might not care. I don't know. Elite athletics are a what have you done for me lately endeavor. Some other younger and more energetic person has every right to go to leadership and demand Holiday's playing time. There are lots of players that look great against Guatemala, then not so much against France, Germany, et al. You have named a few. I am still not sold on Press as a consistent scoring threat against good competition. Look, I do not want to sound like I am only ragging on obviously very very talented players. But we are talking about fielding the best of the best from our very large population that should be able to handle teams like France and England. We will see what happens today against England (didn't England beat USWNT a few years ago 2-1 right before the previous WWC?). I am also well aware that the current problems are not solely on Jill Ellis, although she does herself no favors by her team selections and formation deployments. Wambach as an attacking mid still makes me chuckle. Lloyd as a wide player is a real head scratcher. If it is really the case that we have no new players in the pipeline that (1) can play holding mid, protect the back 4, and successfully distribute with high accuracy and pace, and (2) are better than the wing backs that played against France, we are in deep deep trouble as a soccer development nation. This is not the time for experimentation. The WWC starts in June.

Well, Ellis didn't listen to you at all. Lloyd out wide again (with Press). Holiday and Brian in the middle. Wambach and Morgan on top. Klingenberg, Saurerbrunn, Engen and Krieger in back. Harris in the goal. It's eight minutes in and England has had a few dangerous plays while the US is kicking it down the field. Let's hope they settle in.

Well England got robbed. Should be 1-1. Brian and holiday got caught flat and both were beat.
The announcers seem to be endorcing this style of play.
Holiday constantly tries to bang long balls in from 35 yards out.

I don't know what what to say other then my kids were appalled at the style and quality of play. There is really nothing new to say about this team and this coaching regime. Sermanni was relieved of his duties for what reason? That may have been one of the most tepid 1-1 losses in the history of USWNT. On another note, A few months back I said we would not have to worry about Brasil because they do not care about their women's program. I was wrong. The USWNT is really screwed: Brasil permanent residency for WNT

The scary piece is Jill Ellis has been involved with US soccer since 2000. Is this how her UCLA teams played?
Not sure why they even play with a midfield. There is no developmemt of play everything is over the top.

The USWNT is really screwed: Brasil permanent residency for WNTI recall watching one of the games right before Sermani was fired (not one of the ones they lost, but I believe it was during the Algarve Cup). It looked like different soccer. They were trying to possess the ball and go through the middle instead of kicking it up the field. The next thing we knew Sermani was gone and the long ball was back.
