Proposed Womens Atlanta team would play at Silverbacks Park i think this is great news. grady was a fail. i think the demographic for womens soccer will be families, just a guess no science behind that vs younger single males/females. just makes it more interesting when mls rolls into town -- is the future 3 unrelated professional teams, seems logical that they all unite, but I have no $$$$$ in the cause. equalizersoccer.com/2015/02/27/atlanta-nwsl-expansion-team-play-silverbacks-park/

Obviously I'm a big supporter of girls/women's soccer but haven't we seen this story three times prior. I read where T Fitz Johnson (Atlanta Beat v 3.0) owner was losing over a million dollars a year out of his own pocket bankrolling they team when they played at KSU. Hardly anyone comes to the Silverbacks Womens Games, unfortunately I can't see how this incarnation isn't going to end up as the first three, I hope it doesn't but Atlanta is a very fickle sports town.

just read this earlier today on that issue:
"You can't continue just to throw the money away, year after year, with no light at the end of the tunnel," said Johnson, whose $980,000 loss last season was the smallest in the league. "We're working so hard to get the business model correct for the teams"
yea without a real TV deal or tied to MLS, not sure how it can be sustained.

The WNBA loses money hand over fist every year but have the backing of the NBA so it can take a loss or break even, the highest league salary in about $104,000. Look at Diana Taurasi, she is sitting out the WNBA season because her Russian club team is paying her millions of dollars to do so in effort for her to be fresh for the Russian League season.
With no broadcast rights, small attendance and no MLS backing I just don't see a sustainable business model for this new team to remain viable, obviously the big names want to be paid (Wambach, Morgan, Solo, etc) but the individual teams can't operate at a loss for a few years. Either the big names will have to leave money on the table in order to grow the league or demand the big salaries and not have anything left for operating costs.

Seems to me like a big chunk of $$ will be offset though

I agree with our resident TH mod on this one. I'd love for this new women's team to work out but the Silverbacks women have very very low attendance (most games less than 100 people) even with low ticket prices. We bought a block of 10 tickets last time for $5 a ticket. The Silverbacks, while doing a great job in promotion for their men's team, really do very little to even mention the ladies. In fact, last season came and went and I didn't even realize they were playing yet. I'm going to try and correct that this year.
