After lots of rain and not so many practices, the season looks like it will start with a beautiful weekend! Here are my guesses for U14 girls.
Athena A
TopHat, NASA, UFA and SSA are off to RPL. TH is off to a 7-0 start - well done! The #5 team in A last season - Roswell - ought to have a very good season in this season's A bracket. Five teams moved up from B. Chiefs were temporarily listed in B but have been given their spot back in A.
Saturday
AFU 1 - UFA Norcross 3 - I'm surprised the UFA RPL team hasn't taken a couple of the Norcross players for their team. There's at least one on the team who's very impressive.
DSC 0 - Ambush 1 - Ambush tied CF's Athena A team a few weeks ago and gave up very few goals last season.
Rush 1 - NASA Premier 3 - Rush's biggest advantage is a couple small but speedy forwards. I'm not sure that will be enough against NASA.
Chiefs 1 - Inter 2 - Inter didn't have as good of a preseason as I thought they would with a loss to TSC and a tie with RYSA. Will Chiefs show that they belong back in A? I think they will, but the teams that moved up from B will give them a good challenge.
Sunday
DSC 1 - AFU 0 - AFU was the last team up from B.
Roswell 1 - NASA Premier 0 - These teams were tied in the standings in the fall. It wouldn't surprise me if the winner of this game wins the division.
Rush 1 - CF Elite 2 - I wonder if CF was able to pick up any players in the off season. I'm sure they'd like to stop depending on U13s, particularly in goal.
Chiefs 0 - SAF 2 - Last place from A vs. first place from B. I think the Macon, CGSA merge worked well for this team.
UFA Norcross 1 - Ambush 0 - I think Ambush will keep things close against most teams.
Athena B
Four teams were moved up from C this season.
Saturday
NASA Select 2 - TH Navy 1 - NASA has impressive depth at U14 as shown by their third team doing well in B.
UFA 2 - RYSA 0 - I was a bit worried for RYSA about moving up to B but they did well in their recent tourney. They tied Inter and defeated TSC by 2.
UFA Dawson 1 - TH Navy 1 - TH Navy is doubling up on games this early in the season?? Since it will be their second game of the day, I think that will help Dawson.
TSC 1 - Savannah 2 - Both these teams have a strong forward. I'm sure C teams will be happy not to play Savannah's forward this season. If a fast defender can stick to her like glue, Savannah will be beatable.
Sunday
MAYS 2 - CF South 0 - MAYS started slow last season but finished strong. CF South finished high in C but rarely won a game by more than one. They may have a tough time in B.
Athena C
AFC was moved down from B after being 0-12 last season. I don't think they'll find C easy but they should have a more successful season. Four teams were moved up from D. UFA didn't lose a game last season so it will be interesting to see what they can do now that they're back again in C.
Saturday
AFC 2 - CF North 1 - Will AFC get off to a good start in C? I think they can handle CF North although North picks up a good win here and there.
SSA White 1 - Lanier 1 - Lanier had a very good season in B particularly their last several games. SSA White also finished their season strong. This ought to be a good game.
SSA Blue 1 - NASA 1 - SSA Blue was the last team to move up this season.
UFA 0 - GSA 1 - GSA's defense should be able to handle UFA but their offense struggles to score. UFA doesn't give up many goals either so this should be close.
Sunday
SSA Blue 0 - SSA White 2 - White had one of the top scorers in C last season so I think they'll win this one.
CFC 1 - NASA 0 - I haven't seen this CFC team. I don't think they had a team in this age group for a while but have made a good comeback. NASA struggled in C but managed to stay there for the spring.
GSA 0 - AFC 0 - These two teams played to a 0-0 tie in the fall.
CF North 0 - DSC 1 - These teams are pretty close in strength.
Lanier 1 - UFA 0 - The top two teams from D get to meet in the first weekend of C. I'll give a slight edge to Lanier.
