So a bit of weekend observations:
I almost forgot how to get to our fields, its been over 2 weeks since we practiced at them, it honestly felt strange pulling up at the fields for games.
The fields were in terrible shape, first time I've seen them in weeks. Nothing the club can really do, but wow -- it was dirt.
Could you ask for better soccer weather on Sunday, wow, I could have watched soccer for 9 straight hours yesterday!
Georgia RPL dominance on saturday followed by florida RPL dominance on sunday for the u13s
Shocking news - tophats u14s lost on saturday to B3CCS CLAY COUNTY SC 00 SOL BLACK 3-1, that team must be really good! (unless tophat was missing a few for national team duties)
Personal opinion - u8-u12 academy teams should play every sat/sunday or at least the majority of weekends. I love watching the little ones play.
MLS - was a great opening weekend, fun to watch last night. Just looks really cool to be a part of the opening game for orlando city. They have something special going, having the complete pyramid from MLS down to u8 soccer (BOYS AND GIRLS). makes ya jealous.. Imagine how cool a u9 kid on a 3rd team feels playing at that club!
MLS - get rid of the turf. the seattle turf to me is embarrassing, you can see evidence its a football field. the turf really changes the game and makes it more hectic because of the bounce of the ball.
AFC 02 elite girls -- 5 total cards and a ejection at athena C level something is seriously wrong.
AFUs u14 ECNL team is struggling 2 wins, 9 loses and 2 ties. Only team worse in the group is Birmingham with 1 win.
Sidenote - birminghams ecnl teams are at the bottom 2 of every age group, makes ya wonder what type of club evaluations they have.....
GSA u14 ECNL team continued to roll. at times they don't play the prettiest soccer, but hard to argue with a team that currently is 13-1-2.
The u14 girls group in this state is strong, not sure how it compares historically to the older age groups, but there are some quality teams for sure. imagine if the 3 ecnl clubs, 4 rpl teams were back in athena a. wow, talk about a top 7. it was a competitive group back in the fall at u13. and now add a roswell team to the mix. that team regardless of their playing style has a chip on their shoulder!
Still unimpressed with the USWNT overall. Maybe my expectations are just to high. I'm still extremely unimpressed will jill ellis and amazed that she has risen the ranks and stuck around with what seems to be a complete lack of tactical awareness, playing style, and putting players in positions that they excel at. If this teams wins the Cup, it will not be because of her thats for sure!
I'm always amazed at how competitive youth soccer is in this state on both the boys and girls side.
Lastly -- more rain expected this week
