one problem that will get worse in the future, is the divide between MLS academy teams and non-mls academy teams. Not sure what you can do about it, but maybe the horizon is a sepearte league comletely for the MLS academy teams. I hope not. But here is an example, the 2014-15 Generation Adidas Cup (yes its an MLS thing, homegrown etc) The second phase of the 2014-15 Generation adidas Cup, an annual tournament for U-17 MLS academy teams, kicks off March 29. Seventeen of the 20 MLS clubs are sending teams and will be joined by 10 foreign clubs and Chivas USA, whose first team folded after the 2014 season. www.mlssoccer.com/generationadidascup/2015and www.socceramerica.com/article/62855/ten-foreign-clubs-join-mlss-generation-adidas-cup.html

I don't like the "separation/division" between mls and non-mls clubs for DA. MLS clubs have "arrangments" with non mls DA clubs, but un-aware of the funding level tied with using the mls name ie Carolina Rapids. Not sure how much they support the club or not.
There aren't enough MLS teams to support all the talent, they should embrace the non mls clubs vs alienate them. Maybe its a nike thing, I don't know, but last thing we need is division at the DA level (probably too late for that).

WOW. The monster is starting to take shape. They are creating an "exclusive" environment. I have heard rumors of this a few years ago about how they wanted to create an MLS tournament only. I guess it's coming true.
You would think that they would open a door by having an invitational tournament of some sorts for non-MLS academy's, to give the "smaller" guys an opportunity to compete. This would allow ANY club to "win" the chance to play with the big boys (MLS). This will help those clubs market themselves for recruitment/ revenue.
Cheers, J4K

Non MLS clubs need to offer something for those above 18. Like a pro team. Or a real pipeline to pro teams elsewhere.
