The 06 girls tryouts were a mess this year. Thats probably an understatement. I am guessing most of it stems from the CF North collapse. Many of the CF North girls that assumed they would be able to play TH Milton were told Thursday afternoon (tryouts day 3) that they needed to find another club ... (not sure of the exact reason why). So with 1 night of tryouts left, many former CF North girls SCRAMBLED to other club / team tryouts (including TH SCCL and TH ECNL). Many of these girls have talent, and probably bumped a few players down a level or two. The ripples were painful to many 06 girls at other clubs, too. If offers were extended on night 2, yes, it was handled poorly. No wise club should extend any offers after the second night of tryouts. This is what can happen if offers are extended - then need to be rescinded - because unexpected talent shows up on night 3. (countless upset tweenagers and a three page forum rant). Agreed. Tryouts are supposed to be, just that, tryouts. Too many teams are built before tryouts which is unfair to the kids new to the area or switching clubs. I know a person on the CF team that had a hard time because trying to find a good fit and not knowing coaches personally puts you at a disadvantage. Plus when one place doesn't treat you well and you go to another place only to be told the top team is full before tryouts have concluded that is not a fair tryout. If clubs would leave an open mind and 2 or so spots open the last minute offering too many people issues would not happen.

" This is truly a head scratcher. One would think a new extension would want every single player they could get their hands on. Were the CF North girls looking for a particular level or team and then the message was there was no more room? Was this related to some prior issue? Did they only show up on day 3 and all of the teams were "full" None of these sound likely but a new location turning away new players sounds extremely odd.

Maybe there were too many for one team but not enough for two?? Anybody have personal experience so they can tell us?

Agree this were really insane tryouts for the 06 group, there was a lot of movement in the Forsyth and Milton area for the girls 06 age group. I guess that's why some clubs felt it was ok to held these girls hostage and threaten them if they didn't show up the 3 days of tryouts. Girls had 3 choices to play Athena A. NTH Milton, Rush and UFA Forsyth second team. For instance from UFA Forsyth 06 girls, 6 out of 11 players from the second team left for other clubs and Norcross. I wonder why NTH Milton decided not to have an 06 Girls team?

It’s sad to hear family’s and kids were told they made a team, only to be told later they made a mistake and girls had to move to a lower team after a re-evaluation. No tryouts are perfect but they all can be handled with class, while respecting the process and treating the players involved with some dignity. Own up to the mistake and be transparent and although some people will still be mad but at least they can say it was handled respectfully. Good Luck next week with more tryouts coming and hopefully the dumpster fire 🔥 will be a thing of the past.

Maybe there were too many for one team but not enough for two?? Anybody have personal experience so they can tell us? Parents chasing badges? My guess is that all the players were 'expected' to show up to Milton tryouts, then some parents (suddenly) changed the script on night 1 by showing up at CF Central or TH Buckhead. By night 2 all parents were aware (freaked out?) that the storyline had changed, but by then it was too late... Night 3 became a frantic free-for-all.

Young parents!!!! Attend tryouts, talk with coaches, most of them are dumb as a box of rocks. You have to lobby for your kid and discuss where they are on the coaches horizon or bubble. This discussion lets you know whether to stay put or go somewhere else.
Offers are extended weeks before tryouts, so this 2nd night offer is BS, is a load of crap. Know where you stand before tryouts with your coach and do whats best for your kid because believe me, clubs have no loyalty and never will because its a win-win scenario.

No one has loyalty. But mine got a 2nd night offer for a good Athena A team. Given that she is a relative unknown to the big 6 and didn't try out well, it was a good 2nd choice.

Recruiting goes on all year. It can be simply a coach telling one of their parents they like the play of a player on another team. That message will find it's way to the player or parent of the player. As such, many teams have a fairly set roster with perhaps a couple open spots. This is particularly true of older ages. The top players are known.

Some of this is very true, but as other posters have said and people have experienced there are coaches that LIE. They offer spots and then a new person shows up and they drop someone like a hot potato...see Tophat 06 Navy team and the posts relating to 19 players getting offers. Also in many clubs the coaches are changing, so you can ask one coach (the one you have) but that doesn't mean the new coach will agree and the new coach may have never or rarely seen those players before tryouts. Not all clubs have pre-tryout camps for all ages or kids are not able to attend due to state cup obligations etc. The fact remains that tryouts are a flawed system. There are a lot of dirty, back alley discussions and deals, some of which fall through. This isn't just true for top teams as the 06 navy Athena A team (a third team) tells us. Also people have referred to other clubs. It would be nice for people to get looked at honestly and with an open mind. Just my opinion. These are kids. Nobody should have to lobby for them.

Honesty doesn't work at tryouts. You have to work the system!
The theme now is to have kids attend 3 nights of tryouts, 90% of the clubs preach it, but they want your kids there to keep the money in house, no need to go to another casino when you can lose that money here.
It's tough, I dread these two weeks more than any because promises have been made to kids, or lies whatever you want to call it, and they have a direct impact on your kids future and his overall spirit.
Be honest with your kid on his current level of play, Talk with his coach or potential coach and let him know your thoughts and expectations. Work with the info you have and choose accordingly.
