Lori Laughlin's daughter should have played ECNL, would have been a much cheaper pathway to college

Well I would think it is going to create a fair amount of havoc at tryouts at all clubs. These affected girls will be at a minimum exploring other options. I don't know if it's just me, but it seems there is even more uncertainty and anxiety this tryout season. For starters, I think it's atrocious that the clubs are also lacking in their communications this time around. Usually there is a race by the clubs to meet the faux release date of May 1st to get their information out so that parents, players and the clubs themselves can make important decisions that will affect their lives for the next 10-12 months. One has to troll practices and parks to find out who is coaching teams next year. You don't know which coaches are leaving/staying and in some cases you have to dig around to find the sign up link for tryouts. There are clubs that are having public ID Sessions and then "secret supplemental ID sessions" later and closer to tryouts. On top of that you add the introduction of DPL, SCCL 2.55, ABC, XYZ leagues without the real details being released. Is ECNL going away or are you gaining a hybrid DA team However, the one that chaps my behind is when parents/players aka customers reach out to the clubs and they too don't have answers or don't even bother to return calls 😡😡😡 I think sometimes we have to remember that we are the customers and without our stacks of $$$, clubs don't exist. These clubs should do better and stop the race to mediocrity... 💁♂⚽💁♀ [Stepping off Soapbox] Get back on that soapbox -- been saying it for 10 years -- communication is key. A little communication goes a long way -- every kid this week should know what their current situation is on their current team and if not they should be given an explanation on why. Every kid should have received a mid season evaluation for them to understand what they needed to work on to continue to improve etc. Imagine being a u8 parent these days, probably so clueless on what a mess they have in store for them. Its crazy confusing. I remember when my daughter was younger, we were at a club that didn't have ecnl and most of the parents were in the dark about the positives of ecnl etc. My issue with the majority of this is its typically a single coaches decision and that decision changes annually depending upon who has the team. granted if your a top 5 player, then that's not an issue, its the middle and the bottom 1/3 that are most affected by this. Again -- communicate communicate and then communicate some more. Honesty and communication are the best practice, don't tell kids and or parents what they want to hear, tell them the truth. I've had kids play at almost every youth level and it's astonishing some of the crap I've hard. I've even heard one coach say that only 3 players should have been on the team, 3 of the 20 rostered players.

Parents in U6-U8 rec leagues need to be given a brochure "Navigating US Youth Soccer". Explaining DA, ECNL, the 5 alphabet leagues, GA Soccer, USYS and US Club. Half the parents out there (maybe more) either have no idea about all of this or only know about an inkling of it.

The reality for DPing and guest playing for kids not on top teams -- more than likely the club will use players from the age group below and play kids up vs using kids on 2nd teams etc.

Given the volume of national team players tophat spits out annually, no surprise they went the DA route. Took them a decade to get accepted into ecnl. Tophat will probably lose some of their top 2nd tier players, but the place is a machine. Top players will continue to gravitate to tophat.

ECNL did NOT OFFER Tophat two teams to drop DA so what was tophat supposed to do? Just drop current ECNL girls down to SCCL??? Tophat was offered 2 teams for ECNL last year though, just like Concorde. Tophat denied the offer...was not offered this year.

I think even if they were offered to put 2 teams in ECNL this year TG and Tophat would have probably still declined. I think TG is all in on DA and will probably do everything possible to get 2 successful teams under that umbrella. Which is understandable when you have so many players from Tophat DA on National Team rosters.

We made fun of a family moving their talented u9 player from soccer to competitive chess.....commitment even at that age was to much for them and it was clear that even at u9 if your player missed sessions for school and education related activities they were penalized come sat and sunday. The joke was on us, that kid is probably a world class chess player, member of the debate team and already seeking his MD/Phd at 16

I get the sense this is for their top teams to get more competitive games in? vs 2nd teams? Okay this is very interesting that the Press Release is using the old Tophat logo, and not the NASATophat logo. Could their be an unmerger in the works??? 🤔🤔🤔

It hasnt changed...

I get the sense this is for their top teams to get more competitive games in? vs 2nd teams? No, I don't think so. Notice that Solar and FC Dallas are on there. I think that means that they will drop ECNL too. Don't quote me, but that would make sense. USA Mt Pleasant has been doing NPL. I wonder if they will back out of NPL or play both?

USA Mount Pleasant has more existential issues. They are struggling with competition from GPS Carolina/Charleston and Charleston Battery SC. Did they even field a boys 07 NPL last year? I heard they wont again this year? Their younger girls players have gone to CBSC.

And how do you have a path to DA when 2 of the clubs on the East don't even have DA?

This has got to be a joke, no way these parents are buying this. There are MUCH better teams in NPL and NL Piedmont. Why not just join one of those leagues. The travel looks terrible and very expensive.

Please tell me parents are not buying this ish as a true replacement for giving up ECNL? Again we get only half the info in this big splash of an announcement. I have sooo many questions. How does this impact the players at TH? Will the non-DA teams only be playing in this league or will it be the SCCL teams to supplement their schedule? Does the east play the west and is it a home and home or do you meet and play in a "neutral" location? What's the post season look like? When will that schedule come out? What age groups does this cover and is this only for girls? They have been working on this press release for some time, yet we still don't get a full picture of what is really going on. The biggest portion of youth soccer/sports is the travel. Now parents have to factor in going to the left coast, do they go to surf for the post season also? If they have a post season, when will they fit that in, July after the DA showcases, playoffs, state cups, tryouts, etc. Color me more confused now that I was less than 24 hours ago 🤔🙈🤔

This could spell the end for ECNL as a platform for getting into quality colleges. As of now the Tophat DA team is really the only show in town for the big 5 unless you are interested in Ga State or Columbus State ect.

Not true, in just the last week Ive seen announcements of gsa ecnl goalie committed to Mississippi state, a u16 goalie at Atlanta Fire commit to Ohio state and a Concorde fire ecnl u16 mid commit to Virginia Tech

Athena and Classic are with USYS along with National League
