Something doesn't smell right. He couldn't call a friend or family member to run by his place and bring the passport? Does Atl fly commercial or do they charter? Why not take a later flight? They fly commerical and quite frankly I'm glad they left him home, if they would have waited to get another flight what impactful lesson would he have learned. They did the right thing. When I coached college if you missed the bus, we didnt wait for you.

Well said- show me a coach that has won something of value and they are all tough Pat Summitt once said it's better for a coach to start tough and become easier than being soft and then trying to become tougher There is a difference. There are tough and demanding coaches who respect their players and have that respect reciprocated. And there are narcissistic bullies who demean, abuse, and threaten under the guise of being “tough”. Not the same thing. In the first scenario kids thrive. In the second scenario they lose their love of the game and either quit or go into survival mode. Of course but many parents want to shield their kids from ALL adversity, failures and obstacles. Kids struggling in school? Must be the teachers fault. Kids not playing enough? Must be the coaches fault. Many parents absolve their kids of any responsibility and that is much more prevalent at certain clubs especially ones in more affluent areas. Often times I've made my players run for being disrespectful to me or goofing off at practice, kid goes home and tells mom or dad they had to run with no context. They don't even ask me about it, just complain that I'm being "too tough", I'm not one of those coaches that is described in some of the instances above but I'm not there to coach a players effort either. There has to be standards/expectations and players have to held accountable to those standards....that's being tough. I ask my girls all the time "what would your parents say if you brought home a report card with all C's ?" They say they would be grounded, have their phones taken away, etc. My reply is "your parents expect A/B grades and I expect A/B level effort at practice."

I do agree with you on coaches having to reach out to the parents, but I can also see the other side. I think at a certain age kids need to start learning to stand on their own 2 feet and know that as they get older mom and dad won't be their for them. I know when I coached I told the kids and had the parents come to me after they talked to their child. Granted this may have been wrong but I was trying to teach the kids some small life lessons. Kids need to learn how to communicate face to face and not by text. I wanted them to know it just wasn't their mom and dad that was invested in their success on the field and off. Did parents and kids hate me, yes but a large majority of them came back to me and said thank you and told me they hated me at the time but now they understood. I am willing to bet if parents talked to coaches about other things then soccer they would learn these coaches do really care and are there because they care and want your kid to be successful in life Bobby Knight, Bill Bellick, Bill Purcells, Nick Saban are all SOB's but if you ask 95% of their players and parents they would all run through a brick wall for them, and that all they care about. It all about the inner circle forgot about the background noise. Yes they are all rich well know coaches but remember they all got their start teaching preteens Well said- show me a coach that has won something of value and they are all tough Pat Summitt once said it's better for a coach to start tough and become easier than being soft and then trying to become tougher

So based on the definition of the word and your explanation, poaching or illegal recruitment is just speculation w/o specific examples and findings from ga soccer. Definition: to take or appropriate unfairly or illegally, To take illegally essentially by trespassing.. and your explanation, Recruitment from an pick up play (youth up to 13 and adults +18) and not for profit organization partnered with us soccer, ga soccer, and AU seems like an open opportunity for any club to link into essentially near a Marta station Clarify the following for me- is talking to players from opposing teams during State Cup illegal recruiting? Is taking a family from another team out to dinner in season illegal recruiting? Asking for a friend...

It’s comical to read some of these replies that are loaded with assumptions and far reaching speculations about KSA players.. Talking about Birth Certificates and their players.. when did this issue occur and has there been age verification issues since? With that side, what others clubs have experienced age verification issues like maybe like how Dalton U15s was able to compete in semis due to NSA player issues making them forfeit all games. Poaching players off the streets.. Is that even possible? Education level of players?? Isn’t it mandated by the State grade level youth are required to be enrolled into an educational program through the age of 16? Hint Yes!! www.lawyers.com/legal-info/research/education-law/chart-age-requirements-for-compulsory-education-in-all-50-states.htmlI probably know BK better than you do and 99% of the forum posters. All I'll say is when there's smoke there's fire.

BK is the ultimate recruiter, love watching the team play. There are many issues that rear the ugly side of the sport. Some of the Haitian kids do not go to school, or haven't since 9th grade all they do is play soccer. So, without a formal education and one untimely injury, what are these kids gonna do to have a healthy sustainable life? I remember when Bruno was poaching the best players from Soccer in the Streets, the program was extremely irate at Bruno because these kids were learning life skills, preparing for their future and playing soccer. At KSA, you play soccer. No education and then shipped off to play in the Romanian second division and left to fend for themselves.

Not always the case- I know for Academy tryouts at Tophat TC had kids from other clubs at the top field and watched them the entire night. Those were the ones TC recruited... And new players are often given benefit over old players - the newness factor helps them a bit. My two cents. Not true...I was there helping with the Academy tryouts, lots of kids from UFA, CF, Smyrna and others that TC didn't know that showed up on their own.

You need to change clubs, they have already formed an opinion on your players and those opinions are hard to change. Go to tryouts somewhere else and they will likely make a better team than staying. I think the point is that new players at a club tryout are usually not given the same attention as players that a coach knows well (from being their coach for X years) or knows somewhat (from seeing them at previous tryouts / tournaments, etc.). Not always the case- I know for Academy tryouts at Tophat TC had kids from other clubs at the top field and watched them the entire night.

I have heard the same rumors about KSA teams too...To few paying players absorbing the financial burdens of their teams’ full rosters due to a heavy influx of club sponsored players without the club supporting the scholarship funds themselves; At least that’s the rumor This was the norm when BK was at GSA

There were lots of kids, but maybe 15% less than Tuesday. It looked like there were 12 coaches from level of DA, DPL, Navy (SCCL 1), White (SCCL 2), and Blue. Heard positives about being better last night. Also negatives that some kids were with a coach that isn’t the level she plans on trying out for (White coach looking at Navy players, etc). I heard a couple of examples of coaches telling players they looked forward to seeing them at tryouts. Sounds like a positive for that child and a negative for any other listening ears that didn’t get the same feedback. Mostly scrimmages. Was there goalie training from what you can remember? For the scrimmages were there goalie or the pup neta? We didn't go because we were told the old goalie coach was leaving and they haven't secured a new coach yet. I know when we went last year they had a goalie trainer there for night 2 and 3. There was indeed goalkeeper training both nights, Nick and I worked with the girls

TH "Camp"

This sounds gross. The movement to higher/lower groups should be done during the scrimmages. If you show abilities/spark they should move you to a higher group, if you're struggling move you to a lower group. That doesn't seem to be the intention of this camp. They do in fact do this during tryouts not during Precamp. On the first night of tryouts the girls are told to go to the field with the team they want to try out for, coaches will then move players up or down fields based on performance, that's the way it's always been during all my years at TH. TG also tells the coaches to move players on the first night if they know they aren't going to offer them a spot so the other coaches have ample time to see them.

Once tryouts start next week at TH, players will go to the field for the team they want to try out for, one coach and one team, that's the time to make the impression. Open house camp isnt really instructional, it's just to get in front of the coaches and see the level of players you will be competing against.

Will be working primarily with the entire Academy Program. Heard he was a real good guy and coach. Do we know who is replacing Kim B as goalkeeper coach? Also did you make out ok with your coaching assignment? Depending on location we have a number of GK coaches for the girls and boys, I'll be doing some GK training for the girls and will be working with Ted with the Academy Teams this year.

Rivah should have pulled from the Blue team below his if he needed some subs. Agreed but I guess he was doing what everyone else was doing. Absolutely doesn't make right. The sad part is this will probably never be fixed because of the win at all cost. I can only guess the pressure that is on the coaches at the Big 5 clubs to win or Mia/Messi will change clubs and bring their money somewhere else. I know when I coached at a smaller club we could never schedule games against the upper teams of the Big 5 because they were in a no win situation. If you won that is what was supposed to happen if you lost coach's seat just got a little warmer. The only time we got to play the harder teams is once they turned 13 and Georgia Soccer made the schedules. Unfortunately by that time key players left to go to the big 5 clubs to play RPL or ECNL. As I mentioned previously I coached the 04 NTH White team that went to State Cup last year and advanced to the Final Four, we beat UFA's NL/SRPL team, GSA's NL team and tied CF's Athena A team with 4 or 5 ECNL players dropped down "to help". I didn't use a single guest player and had the same group of girls all year. For me I would never use higher level players just to win, the measure of a coach is to develop what you have and see how far you can take the team with the talent you have.

Rivah will do anything to win in his first season at TopHat. He will look bad if they don't win and the parents will not be happy either. Guys first off let's not talk about stuff you don't know anything about. You are thrashing a guy for s&$t you don't know. 1) Mills didn't give up players to SCCL because they also went to TN and the SCCL team was in there bracket. So why would you give up your best players to help a team your going to play against? 2) From what I have been told he doesn't have 5 ECNL players playing for him. He will have 2 the other one we're on his team that played up for the ECNL team and they had to be rostered on the ECNL to play. So guys before you accuse someone of cheating please get all your facts correct. Rivah should have pulled from the Blue team below his if he needed some subs.

Exactly right, that is why we proposed that DDY take over all the recreational programs and Inter to take over the academy/select programs. It was frustrating as someone who was invested in growing the program while DDY wasn't interested in providing a more competitive platform for the players. Outside of paid facility memberships, soccer was the second biggest revenue generator when I was at DDY. In the long term they would have made more money with a larger recreational program and still meet the needs of the higher level players with the proposed merger back then. Actual conversation between me (running a couple of academy teams) and the director: Y - good news, next season we've added AFU, GSA, Tophat, and UFA to your schedule Me - great. We'll need field space to add a third night of training so we can be competitive. Y - can't do that, this is the Y. That's too much soccer. Me - WTF? so you want us to go be cannon fodder. how is that helpful? And that was my last year there. And most of the kids. For the record, our top team went 2-2 and was respectable. The 2nd and 3rd teams got smoked since we had no depth. You just described my world at DDY
